Villa Tuesday News

Dear Fairfax Villa Parents and Staff,

This spring all Fairfax Villa parents and staff will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This survey is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various issues related to our school.  These issues include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism.

I have been honored to serve as your principal since January 2019! It is a privilege to be a member of a community where parents, teachers and students care for each other and strive to build relationships that promote academic and social growth.  I look forward to receiving your feedback, as well as working alongside you so that we can continue to create exciting and meaningful learning experiences for our students in the years to come.

The survey will be collected online between March 12 and March 26.  When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the survey.  Your opinions matter.

My best,

Dave Gerstner

With 24/7 news coverage about the coronavirus, it is hard not to feel worried about your children and their well-being. Your children may be picking up on this worry as well. Our teachers and staff at Fairfax Villa are committed to continuing to provide a healthy environment for all, promoting healthy habits such as hand washing for 20 seconds, catching sneezes in tissues, using hand sanitizer right before eating or when they do not have ready access to a sink. Our custodial staff have been directed to sanitize all surfaces and high-contact areas such as doorknobs, handrails, light switches, and water fountains. Please keep your child home if they are sick, please remind them to use good hygiene, and please reassure them if they express concern. A variety of resources about coronavirus, including "Talking to Children about Covid-19," a handout about COVID-19 from the FCHD, and updated FAQs have been posted at https://www.fcps.edu/news/coronavirus-update

Please reach out if you have questions or concerns.

Message from Dr. Scott Brabrand

Dear FCPS Families and Staff,

The 2020 Census count impacts how billions of dollars in federal funds are distributed each year for programs and services that are critical for schools and students such as special education, Head Start, food assistance, and Title I grants that help serve low-income families.

We are encouraging all of our parents, guardians, staff, and community members to take part in the U.S. Census. As the 2020 Census approaches, it is critical that everyone participate to ensure a complete and accurate count.

Beginning March 12, a postcard will go out to all residences letting individuals know how they can complete the census online or by phone. If a person has not completed the census by April 3, a paper questionnaire will be mailed to the residence. Census responses are confidential.

A kindergartner counted in the 2020 Census this spring will be in high school when the next census comes around in 2030; that’s 10 years of vital resources for our schools that are dependent on ensuring every child is counted in FCPS.

Please participate in the census and help shape our children’s future.  Everyone counts!

Sincerely,

Scott Brabrand, Superintendent Fairfax County Public Schools
