Important Graham Road Updates from Principal Badini

Dear Families,

As you read in Dr. Brabrand’s communication, all FCPS schools will be closed until further notice.  Distribution of laptops, books, and other material has been suspended.  Please know that this decision was not made lightly and that it will protect our entire community. From my home to yours, I encourage you to stay home and practice social distancing as much as possible.  Take time to connect with your loved ones and know that by staying home, you are helping.

If your child has access to the internet, s/he can participate in optional, self-directed learning activities that have been posted on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard) and are available at www.fcps.edu.   Again, these activities are not required, nor graded.  If your child does not have access to the internet, s/he may want to engage in some of the following activities: read 20 minutes per day, write in a journal, engage in play that includes movement, help with cooking, and create artwork. I also encourage you to explore Internet Essentials from Comcast - they are offering 60 days of free internet.

Beginning tomorrow, March 16, FCPS is expanding the grab and go food distribution sites to a total of 18 locations, including the Graham Road Community Center.  The food distribution is set up outside the building.   Breakfast will be served from 8-10:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

I urge you to please stay informed by reading my e-Notify and News-You-Choose messages, reading the e-mails from Dr. Brabrand, and following us on Twitter @lepbadini and @GrahamRoadES. You can also review important information through Fairfax County’s COVID-19 updates as well as recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Health. I will be here to help support in any way I can. As always, please feel to reach out via e-mail at lebadini@fcps.edu with any questions or suggestions.

In moments of challenge and uncertainty, I am reminded of what is always certain – our community is strong and together we can get through anything! Thank you for your support, encouragement and willingness to help one another! I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Sincerely,

Lauren Badini

Principal

Talking to Students about COVID-19

It is important that you have conversations with your children about why they are out of school, and that everyone is doing their best to make sure that they are safe and healthy. As you begin to plan these conversations consider reading Talking to Children about COVID-19

ParentVue Accounts

This weekend, you should receive an email from FCPS if you do not already have a ParentVue account. We implore you to please sign-up for an account. A ParentVue account makes it possible for parents to access the FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) portal. If you already have an account, you can log-in here. This is where several of the resources for students will be located in the coming weeks. If you need help setting up your account, please call. We will happily walk you through the process.

Cable Channels – Continuity of Learning

FCPS is currently creating instructional learning programs that will air on your local cable channel. Finally, a time when we suggest you let your kids watch TV!

Additional instructional videos are being developed/recorded and will be added into the lineup as they are available.  Please check this week for programs that will benefit your children at home.
