Talking to Children About the Coronavirus
FCPS posts updates regularly about the Coronavirus on the FCPS and school websites. FCPS is working with the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) and closely monitoring the health crisis in China and globally associated with novel coronavirus infections (COVID-19), as well as any impact it may have locally.
On the FCPS website you will find:

Each year, March is designated Women’s History Month by Presidential proclamation, in order to honor women’s contributions in American history. All FCPS schools are being asked to recognize Women’s History Month. This year’s theme is “The Valiant Women of the Vote” as 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. The history of women’s suffrage is complex, and the struggle is ongoing. Throughout the month, students will be provided the opportunity to learn about and acknowledge this important recognition.
Interesting Fact:
Virginia's own Ellen Glasgow, an author and Pulitzer Prize winner, was also active in the suffrage movement; Glasgow Middle School is named for her.

POSITIVITY PROJECT
Social Intelligence
This week teachers and students will discuss Social Intelligence. Social intelligence refers to a person’s ability to understand and manage interpersonal relationships — and is distinct from a person’s IQ or “book smarts.” It includes an individual’s ability to understand, and act on, the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of other people. This type of intelligence can take place “in the moment” of face-to-face conversations but also appears during times of deliberate thinking. It involves emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
