Positivity project

Starting Monday, we'll begin learning about the character strength of social intelligence. Social intelligence means that you are aware of other people’s thoughts and feelings and you understand why they do things. For a 1-page overview, please click here.

To learn more about it check out the character card linked on our school website. You can find that by clicking here: https://powelles.fcps.edu/about/positivity-project

FCPS Outstanding Awards

Kelly Baugh

Congratulations to KELLY BAUGH!

Ms. Kelly Baugh, one of our awesome assistant principals here at Colin Powell ES, is 2019-2020 Colin Powell’s Outstanding Leader Winner! She has also earned the honor of being named Centreville Pyramid’s Outstanding Leader. These are such great honors and well deserved for Ms. Baugh, who is an outstanding leader for our school community. Kudos to Ms. Baugh and good luck as she is entering the next round of voting at the regional level

Pennies For Patients

CPES raised $2820.00 this week!

Pennies for Patients

Colin Powell Elementary has once again accepted the challenge of helping to find a cure for blood cancer!  We are joining schools across the country to make a difference and raise as much money as we can.  Over the next three weeks our school will be working to reach a goal of $12,000, and if we reach that goal our principals will have to kiss a pig!  If we do reach our goal, our school will have raised $50,000 to date to fight blood cancers and help find treatments for children fighting for their lives all over the world.

Given the fact that this coming week is the book fair, we are encouraging all students and families to focus on online donations through friends and family this week.  Go to https://events.lls.org/pages/nca/ColinPowellElementarySchool-2020 to set up your child’s donation page or make an online donation in their name.   We have a special school goal of $6,000 in online donations, and if we reach that there will be a special surprise for our school!!

This Friday, March 13th, we will have a Freaky Friday spirit day.  Your child can dress like a teacher or like you in a Freaky Friday style swap.  The good news is you can participate and dress like them!!  Stay tuned for updates next week to see how much progress we have made towards our goal.  We know together we can conquer cancer!!   If you have any questions, please contact Laura Senturia at lesenturia@fcps.edu

PLEASE NOTE:  As some of our caring Puma families have noticed, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has started offering prizes for various levels of giving in their elementary school level Pennies for Patients program.  At Colin Powell we have always embraced getting students excited about making a difference for others in our spring fundraisers through exciting and interactive classroom and school wide incentives.  Several schools in the region have decided to forego the prizes the foundation is offering and focus on raising as much money to go directly towards cancer research as possible.  We are pleased to be one of those schools.   Please use the boxes to collect donations from friends and family to bring in to school, but kindly disregard the listing of prizes on the back of the box.

Parent Volunteers Needed For Grades 3-6 Powell Career Fair

We would like to invite parents and community members to participate by joining us as a featured guest at the Powell Career Fair.  Career Fair will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020 from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m.  Participants will be stationed at tables throughout the gym.  Students in grades 3-6 will be attending the fair and visiting the tables.  This provides an excellent opportunity to share your role in the working world with our students.  Visual aids (posters, equipment, uniforms, etc.) and hands-on materials are extremely helpful when working with elementary school aged children.

If you, or someone you know, would like to participate in Colin Powell’s Career Fair 2020, please complete the form that went home in Tuesday Folders and return it to the School Counseling Office no later than March 13th.
