Principal's Message

Dear Hughes Parents, Guardians, and Students

This has been a performing arts week at Langston Hughes Middle School!  Yesterday and today the community got a treat.  Ms. Tya Echols and her 7th grade English classes performed pieces for a Black History Month presentation. They reminded us that we are all powerful and matter in this world, and that Black History is American History.  Last night High School Musical Jr. opened under the direction of Ms. Cheryl Dewenter.  The show continues tonight and tomorrow.  Buy tickets online to ensure you have a seat!  These performances have showcased the incredible talent of our students and staff, and we congratulate them on their preparation and courage to bring forth art for the community to enjoy!

Sincerely,

Aimée Monticchio

Principal

Writing SOL for 8th Grade Students

8th grade students will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Grade 8 Writing Test between Monday, March 9th and Friday, March 13th.  It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child have a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing. If you become aware of an unavoidable conflict that could result in your child missing a testing day, please notify school as soon as possible. If you have questions about SOL testing, please contact your child’s counselor or our school testing coordinator.
