Attendance Matters-Updated Policy

Attend

Earlier in the year, Fairfax County changed its policy on attendance to align with new state laws.  Here at Cameron we wanted to remind parents of the change in policy.

If your child is absent, please call in at 703-329-2129 or use our online attendance form https://camerones.fcps.edu/attendance-form  as soon as you know about the absence.  Please state the reason for the absence.

Only absences for illness are automatically marked excused.

If your child is unexcused absent, you will receive an automated phone call.  Please contact the school within 3 days to verify the reason for the absence.

If there are many illness absences in a short period of time or they exceed an expected amount, a doctor’s note may be required to mark the illness excused.

If you are planning a trip, please let us know as soon as possible so we can arrange work and make note of it.  However, even with notification a trip may be marked an unexcused absence.  Prearranged trips such as vacations, work trips, or family events are now considered unexcused.  Once it is in our system, a staff member will not call to follow up, but the automated system will still call you each day of the trip.

Planned absences for military deployment, religious observation, and family hardship may be marked excused if you call in ahead of time.  Documentation may be required.

If a student reaches a certain number of unexcused absences, an attendance referral form must be submitted by the school.

Thank you for helping us to make sure our students are in school and learning as much as possible.
