Common Sense Media Certification Process
Information for Rocky Run Families
Rocky Run teachers have been focusing on digital citizenship skills in our students through our leadership with FCPSOn. We have used many of the Common Sense Media tools and resources over the years as a grounding for our work. In order to reflect this hard work, we are planning to apply for recognition as a Common Sense School this year. Becoming a recognized school will demonstrate to our community a commitment to responsible, effective technology use.
In order to achieve this certification, we are implementing 5 lessons with our students to build awareness around various digital citizenship topics. We completed one of the lessons in October during Digital Citizenship week. The remaining lessons will be delivered in conjunction with our Positivity Project lessons on the Fridays leading up to our Chantilly Pyramid Spotlight on Student Learning (March 31st), where we will address Media Balance and Well-Being.
Through these lessons, we will make meaningful connections with the Common Sense Lessons and the Positivity Project. Please review our schedule of topics and dates below. In order to build our community and create a shared responsibility, we will send a notice via News You Choose following every lesson to include Family Engagement Tips about the topic.
Working together with Common Sense Education, we can prepare our students to think critically and use tech in positive, creative, and powerful ways.
