A Fantastic Finale to February!

A Fantastic Finale to February!

To say that February flew by is an understatement! It's hard to believe it is time for class registration and auditions for next school year already.

This month we had our annual Career Experience Expo which was an all-day event that included a keynote speaker, as well as more than 20 industry professionals.

A very special congratulations to our Academy Dance instructor, Meredith Barnes, and her students who hosted a dance benefit concert for Multiple Sclerosis. Their hard work raised $1700 for The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation!

Academy Student Wins National Film Award:

The "Lights, Camera, Save!" video contest, organized by the American Bankers Association Foundation, is a national competition that encourages teens to use video to communicate the value of saving money and inspire their peers to become lifelong savers.

Burke & Herbert Bank hosted the first round of judging for Northern Virginia students. Students (ages 13-18) had to create a video, 90-seconds or less, on saving and using money wisely and submit it to the bank. Videos were judged on their quality, message, content and overall appeal. This year, 142 banks hosted 163 contests in 46 states as a part of "Lights, Camera, Save!"

The first place regional finalist included both Fairfax Academy students Sujay Khona (1st place) and Josabeth Hailu (3rd place).

Sujay advanced and represented Burke & Herbert Bank on the national level, and this week he was celebrated in class as he won 2nd place in the national competition! Sujay was awarded a video camera as part of his regional prize, and also $2,500 for his 2nd place national win.

Sujay’s film is scheduled to be shown at the AMC Hoffman theatres in November 2021 as part of the Alexandria Film Festival.
