We Appreciate our Custodians!

custodians

Mr. Huynh, Ms. Torres and Ms. Agyei-Yeboah with some of the many cards and treats that they enjoyed last week.

Last week we celebrated our amazing custodians – Laura Torres (building manager), Selina Agyei-Yeboah (assistant building manager), Khang Van Huynh, Amer Sabet and Willian Alonzo-Lopez -- as part of Custodian Appreciation Week. They felt totally spoiled with treats, notes, and goodies all week. They want to extend a big thank you to everyone who made the week so memorable. We are thankful to have such a wonderful team at Churchill Road!

Congratulations Mr. Craig-Kuhn!

Ms. Bamdad's second graders were only too happy to help Mr. CK celebrate his award.

A very big congratulations to Mr. Jordan Craig-Kuhn, our School-Based Technology Specialist, for being named the Region 1 Outstanding School-Based Professional Employee for 2019-2020.  Douglas Tyson, Assistant Superintendent for Region 1, surprised Mr. Craig-Kuhn with the award last week.

We couldn't be prouder and hope that Mr. Craig-Kuhn will be named Outstanding School-Based Professional Employee for all of FCPS at the school system's end of year awards ceremony. We think he's the best!

Ringing in the Chinese New Year!

chinese luncheon

Churchill Road staff were treated to a Chinese feast to ring in the New Year.  The staff lounge was transformed with decorations and sayings symbolic of the celebration, "Farewell to the past year and welcome to the new year."  Thank you to the generosity of the entire Chinese community at Churchill Road for sharing the meaning of this celebration and for providing us with a delicious sampling of Chinese cuisine.  A very special thank you to the parent organizers and volunteers for making this possible: Miao Jiang (Initiator and Lead Organizer), Mingchao Chen, Joycelyn Ding, Huijun Dong, Wendy Duan, Catherine Li, Lily Hua Qin, Nan Tian, Iris Xue and Xiaozhen Yue.

2020 CRS Spelling Bee Champion Crowned!

bee champs

We had a very impressive spelling bee, which took us 29 rounds to get to our finalist!!  All of our contestants should be incredibly proud of themselves as this was a quite impressive spelling bee. Our school finalist, Sophie, successfully spelled “premiered” to secure her place in the county spelling bee. Congratulations to Yunseo and Tom for their silver and bronze finishes! We are wishing Sophie the best of luck in the next round! Thanks to teacher sponsors Ms. Diorio and Ms. Brown for all their hard work on the bee.

Read Across America - Monday, March 2

On March 2, 2020 Churchill Road will celebrate Read Across America Day.  Teachers will welcome various staff members into their classrooms as guest readers.  Ms. Elaine Tholen,  School Board member, and Mr. Douglas Tyson, Assistant Superintendent,  Region 1, will visit Churchill Road as guest readers as well.

Read Across America Day celebrates a nation of diverse readers.  During the week take the opportunity to read a variety of books  with your children!   Click  here to find some new ideas!

School Health Services Survey

The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). To determine the quality of these services, a survey has been developed by the FCHD to be shared with all parents or guardians and school staff members who interact with the school health rooms. If you interact with our school health aides and public health nurse, please complete the survey by going to:

School Health Services Survey – Parents 2020: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K9VWCJ6 approval # 20217

School Health Services Survey-Parents 2020 (Spanish): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K7KGXTS approval #20217

School Health Services Survey – STAFF 2020: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KDDYRW3 approval # 20216

The survey will take less than five minutes to complete and will provide the FCHD with valuable information.  Your participation in this important endeavor is appreciated.
