Did you know...Social Media can be used to bring friends together but also creates anxiety, social isolation, and fear of missing out (FOMO). Taking a break from social media can be good for mental health and over all wellbeing. Here is an article on ways to take a break from social media.

Opioids are the leading cause of unnatural death in Fairfax County, and most heroin users start with prescription opioids. Come learn how to recognize and address the signs of drug use from our own Kelly Rankin, Langley’s substance abuse specialist, at a presentation on drug prevention on Sat, Feb 29, 10-11:30am at Christ the King Lutheran Church (10550 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls, VA).

Rankin will join William Hazel, MD (former Secretary for Health and Human Resources in Virginia), Barry Byers, MD (Fairfax County Opioid Taskforce) and Mario Colorado (Fairfax County Police Department) in this important meeting, hosted by the Great Falls Citizen Association, Great Falls Rotary and Celebrate Great Falls. Click  here  for more information.

Juniors will take the Writing SOL from March 5-10. In order to participate, students must have their school issued laptops checked in class on February 25-26 to ensure laptops are in compliance and have proper updates. Students will not be allowed to use personal devices on the SOL, and the school will not provide laptops to students who do not bring their compliant and checked laptops on their assigned test day. Students without a school issued laptop on their assigned test day will have their SOL test rescheduled. Please remind your junior student to bring their school issued laptop and charger to school on February 25-26 and on March 5-10.

What are the Langley Courtyard Renovation Plans?

Wheat's Landscaping is working on plans to transform the school's main courtyard from concrete and patchy grass into a nature-filled sanctuary -- over spring break! Unfortunately, we're only halfway to our target fundraising goal.

The more money we raise over the next few weeks, the greener it will be!  Please don't wait! Your donation is needed now to turn the vision into reality. Donate a leaf or two to the Langley Legacy Tree, the beautiful wall sculpture that has begun to "grow" in Langley’s lobby (across from the main office). The Legacy Tree is a permanent and prominent record of generous courtyard contributors. Choose your engraved message — leaves make wonderful tributes to students, teachers, family and friends! Giving levels are copper leaf ($50), silver leaf ($100), gold leaf ($200) and acorn or bird ($500). Or, for a $1,000+ donation, include your family's name on the Courtyard Benefactor Plaque that will soon be next to the Tree.

Click on ptsalangley.org to donate your tree leaves/acorns/birds. Questions or suggestions? Email chrissielavin1@gmail.com.

As we are now underway in the second semester of the school year, we want to remind you of two ways you can stay informed of your child’s school progress:

• The Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account will give you 24 hour access to your child's attendance, class performance, demographic data, and more. The same login credentials will be used to access both the SIS and FCPS 24-7 systems. If you don’t already have an account, please sign up at this link: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/fcps-24-7-learning/parent-help

Sign Up for Weekly Progress Reports to receive a summary of your student(s) grades in real time. All parents/guardians of middle and high school students who have registered for a SIS ParentVUE Account and have a primary email address recorded in SIS ParentVUE can receive Weekly Progress Reports via email. Please note: This does not happen automatically. You must opt-in to activate and receive these progress report emails.

To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE Account and first verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab. If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports and click on update account. Once confirmed, parents/guardians can activate and select their preferences for receiving these reports within the SIS ParentVUE “My Account” tab. If you have more than one MS or HS student, the progress reports will be included in one email.

Questions? Your student’s teacher is always the best resource to answer any grade book questions that you may have or you can visit this Weekly Progress Report Parent Quick Reference Guide.

Placement tests needed for students taking Dual Enrollment (DE) courses next year.

Please know that LHS will be hosting 2 opportunities for students to take the NVCC placement exam here at LHS.  (Students who have signed up for DE courses by 2/18/20 received an email with the information below as well). This portion of the DE process is as simple as 1-2-3.

  1. Before you can proceed you must provide a NOVA student ID number (ID’s are 7 digits and begin with the number 7).  All FCPS students planning to enroll in a DE class must apply to NOVA at https://apply.vccs.edu/.  Instructions for applying to NOVA can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/y59smduq
  2. Determine if you need to placement exam using the chart here: Substitute Placement Exam Chart
  1. 3. If you are not eligible for a substitute and you have your NOVA ID, you may register for our one of our testing options here:  https://forms.gle/cbqffjuLBEEQtqCY9 or plan on taking at the NOVA Campus.
