Message from Dr. Granada
Dear Greenbriar West Families,
When I first came to Greenbriar West as a teacher in 2003, I knew it was a special place, and I was fortunate to be an assistant principal here from 2005-2007 with Dr. Cleveland. I left Greenbriar West in 2007 to expand my administrative experiences as an assistant principal, then principal; and when Dr. Cleveland retired in 2017, I was fortunate to return to Greenbriar West in 2017 as a principal.
Being the principal of Greenbriar West has been an extraordinary experience. I have cherished the opportunity to work with such an outstanding staff and with such amazing students and families. I am proud that we have continued to strengthen the awesomeness of our beloved school—the important work of preparing our students for their future with FCPSOn and our Portrait of a Graduate learning, in addition to character development with the Positivity Project and cohesive expectations with our Positive Behavior matrix. Together, we have all strengthened the ethos that “everyone matters” here at GBW. Lastly, it has been a privilege to work with our PTA through the years on a variety of endeavors that have brought families together and supported the daily work of educating students.
After being an administrator for fifteen years, I am at the point in my career where I would like to return to my teaching roots. I will be retiring from FCPS effective July 1 and teach in a school closer to my home.
Having transitioned out of being a principal in a school building, I am aware that shifts in school leadership can be unsettling. At the same time, I am confident that the outstanding leadership in the Region V office will provide a calm and steady hand during this time of transition, as it has for other schools in our region. Providing this information earlier, rather than later in the year, also gives the Region V office time to find the very best leadership team for Greenbriar West.
As I complete my final months at Greenbriar West, I am confident that our Region Assistant Superintendent, Ms. Rebecca Baenig, will work tirelessly to ensure that Greenbriar West continues its path of excellence under highly capable leadership. The Region Office and FCPS Human Resources Department will begin the principal search process in April. Ms. Baenig will be reaching out to invite you to a future meeting on the entire principal selection process and ways you can provide written input regarding the skills, experience and leadership characteristics needed for our school.
One of my mantras is to “finish strong.” As each year winds down, I say this to students here, as well as to my own children! Up through the students’ last day on June 12, I plan to continue strong and finish strong as the principal of Greenbriar West; and Ms. Campbell and I will do whatever we can to support the newly selected leadership at Greenbriar West as we close out the school year. We are confident that the future at Greenbriar West will be awesome.
Warmly,
Patricia A. Granada, Ed.D. Principal, Greenbriar West ES

Dear GBW Family,
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 30 years since I joined the Fairfax County Public School system. In 1990 upon graduation from Dillard University in New Orleans, LA I began my teaching career at Timber Lane ES. There I taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades and served as the Intersession Coordinator after Timber Lane became a year round school. In 2001, I became the Assistant Principal at Centre Ridge ES and served there for 6 years before transferring to Greenbriar West in 2007 as the Assistant Principal.
I have been very blessed throughout my career to work with some amazing principals and hardworking teachers whose main focus has been to ensure that students received the best educational experience. So, it is with mixed emotions that I inform you of my plan to retire at the end of this school year. Serving as the Assistant Principal of GBW for these past 13 years has been one of the highlights of my career. GBW will always be a part of my heart and I will cherish the fond memories and friendships I’ve developed over the years.
After retirement, I am excited and looking forward to joining my brothers in their medical practice in the Virgin Islands. Thank you in advance for your support as I assist Dr. Granada in continuing a successful school year for our students, staff and community.
Sincerely,
Lauryn Campbell, M.Ed. Assistant Principal, Greenbriar West ES
