Reminder from the Health Room (All Grades)

This is an important reminder regarding the health protocol for students.

  • Students must be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medication, before returning to school.  (i.e. If your child is sent home today, they are welcome back to school the day after tomorrow.  Children must be kept home for 24-hours if sent home.)
  • If your child is not well, keep them home to rest and recover, so they can do their best learning when they return.

If you have any questions regarding the health room guidelines, please contact Mike Loftus, Clinic Aide, at 703-757-3010.

Costa Rica Recap - “Pura Vida”   (Grades 4-6)

January 25th-31st, thirteen Colvin Run students and their parents visited Costa Rica along with Professora Muriel and Ms. Seiler as part of our annual field trip to learn about the Costa Rican culture and why Pura Vida - “Pure Life” - is their motto.  Costa Rica’s natural richness is the perfect setting for students to enrich their knowledge, practice their Spanish, and understand what it means to be global citizens.  During the week-long field trip, they visited and stayed at a local eco-farm to learn about how the Costa Ricans conduct experiments, share sustainable farming techniques and ways to live a ‘greener’ life. Students also made soap and empanadas, visited a local hot spring heated by the Ricon de la Vieja (one of Costa Rica’s 9 volcanoes), toured a chocolate plantation to learn about the benefits of organic food, and made their own chocolate.

They hiked to the picturesque Rio Celeste and La Fortuna waterfall, spent time observing birds, monkeys and a variety of flora, visited a school where they got to communicate with students using their Spanish skills, and took a zip-line canopy tour through a rainforest. This was a memorable trip for students, parents, and staff.

This field trip opportunity is available to rising 5th and 6th grade students(current 4th and 5th grade students) during the 2020-2021 school year. An information and interest meeting will be held later this spring for current 4th and 5th grade students and parents.  More information is coming soon.
