Administrative Spotlight

North Springfield Families,

This week we are celebrating National Engineers Week. Engineers are an integral part of society and the job opportunities grow every day. Engineering encompasses all facets of the Portrait of a Graduate attributes. Each day we encourage our students to be creative and critical thinkers and to look at things differently.

Our students are incorporating engineering attributes throughout our school. We try to provide access into science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through our STEAM lab lessons and units, through our library/technology classes, and in our grade level project based learning units (PBL's).  In looking for new ways to ensure all students have access we have discovered that we have many students that have bright futures in the engineering fields.

We look forward to an exciting spring!

Supply List

NSES Seeking Volunteers for STEAM

North Springfield Elementary is hosting an Innovation Day. During this time, students will participate in hands-on engineering projects. The week prior we would like to have STEAM professionals such as yourself, share your experiences in STEAM. This preview day will occur on Thursday, March 5, 2020 (9-11 am). This will give our students prior knowledge of STEAM and help them become excited to participate in Innovation Day activities.

During the event, you will be with other volunteers answering questions from students in grades K-5 and sharing information about your job and how it relates to STEAM. The setting will be in a room with tables to hold any artifacts that connect to your job. Students will be free to walk around the room listening and asking questions of our volunteers.

STEAM is very important for 21st century learners. 2.4 million STEAM jobs were unfilled last year. At North Springfield, we are building interest, knowledge, and excitement in STEAM. We hope that you will join us in making STEAM an exciting opportunity for our students.

Winter Weather

Winter is now upon us so please make sure that your students are dressed appropriately. We will have recess as long as the temperature is above 30 degrees. This means that your student should have hats, gloves, and coats. We want every student to be comfortable when outside in cold weather.
