Forest Edge Weekly Update

This week @ Forest Edge...

100 days

This week we celebrated our 100th day of school. Our 1st Grade staff participated by dressing like they were 100 years old!

This week was our February Building-Wide Morning Meeting where our whole school comes together to celebrate our progress so far. Our Eagle mascot joined the fun this time to lead the way!

We had much to celebrate as our Eagles have worked hard both academically and socially to make our school a great place to learn!

Forest Edge ES Title 1 Status

Dear Forest Edge Family and Community Members,

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) serves a diverse community of learners, and we strive to inspire and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead healthy, ethical lives, and be responsible and innovative global citizens. FCPS has a variety of programs that enable students to meet these high expectations that include the Title I, Part A funding. Title I, Part A was established by the United States Department of Education to provide schools with 75% or more students eligible for Free and Reduced Meals with funding to support a variety of programs. Each local school district is able to set their own level of eligibility and for years FCPS designated schools where 40% of students are eligible for Free and Reduced Meals as Title I schools. In the 2016-2017 school year, the threshold was increased to 45% due to fluctuations in funding, and increasing costs of programs and other supports.

Due to additional recent changes, the threshold for FCPS elementary schools to qualify for Title I, Part A program has increased from 45% to 55% for the 2019-2020 school year. This new threshold resulted in Forest Edge Elementary no longer qualifying as a Title I school as its current percentage of students eligible for Free and Reduced Meals is 52%.

Forest Edge administration is working closely with the Title I staff in the Office of Professional Learning and Family Engagement to ensure the impact of the loss of Title I, Part A funding is minimized. Currently, Forest Edge Elementary is in a one-year grace period and will continue to receive support from the Title I staff for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

If you have questions regarding Title I, Part A please feel free to contact our Title I office at (571) 423-4701. If you have any specific school-related questions, please contact us at 703-925-8000.

Sincerely,

Jillian Zuber

Principal

Home Depot Math Night

Please join us March 19th at the Reston Home Depot for this family math night! Families can walk around with their children through Home Depot of Reston, solving grade appropriate math problems. When they enter, they will be given a set of questions to answer that Forest Edge teachers have created specifically for Home Depot. The math problems will correlate with items in the store. This is a great opportunity for parents to work with their child, solving everyday math problems! Students who turn in a completed math activity sheet will receive a coupon that they can use at the Spring Book Fair!
