A Note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Rocky Run Families,

Happy Valentine's Day!  This week's P2 theme was LOVE.  It reminded me that love means to take care of others through not only the good times, but more importantly during those times when things are a little rough.   I am proud of the way our students and staff take care of each other at Rocky Run.  It has been a fantastic full week at RRMS.  A few highlights:

  • We recognized our January Students of the Month during lunches this week.  It is great to highlight the ways our students Raise the Ram in all they do.
  • Our counselors have finshed meeting with our 8th grade students to support their transition to high school and course selection.  They are currently collaborating with and advising with 7th graders on course selection for next year.
  • We had an exciting spelling bee that was won on the word:  pessimum.  Congratulations to our winner, 7th grader Rohit Paka and runner up, 7th grader Anshui Yarlagadda.
  • The RRMS Math Counts team (pictured below) is advancing to the State competition.  Congratulations!
  • Quarter 2 progress reports were distributed last week.  We are thrilled to share that we have over 950 students on the A-B Honor Roll!

  • Our SCA spread a lot of LOVE this week through their Candygram sale.

I welcome your feedback, questions and suggestions. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time or complete this form

I hope to see you at Rocky Run very soon.

Positivity Project

This week's character trait is LOVE.

You value close relationships with others and being close to people.

The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. When one person loves another person, that person: comforts and makes the other feel safe; sacrifices on the other’s behalf; supports the other during struggles; and places the other’s needs ahead of his/her own. If you love a person, that person makes you feel safe and secure. You can be yourself with that person. You miss that person when he/she is not around.

Academic Advising for Current 7th Graders

On Monday and Tuesday of this past week, counselors presented information about 8th grade courses to all 7th grade students. They also received their course selection forms through Science class. Starting Tuesday, 2/18, counselors will begin sitting down one-on-one with every student to discuss core classes and electives for next year. In order to be prepared for this advising session, please use this weekend to talk to your child about their courses. We are also asking every student to enter their course selections online through their SIS StudentVUE. Instructions are on the back side of the Course Selection Form and also available on our website (see the links below). By the time students meet with their counselor, they should have discussed course selections with parents and entered courses online through StudentVUE. Counselors will review and answer any questions students bring. We are looking forward to working with you and your child to prepare for another exciting year of middle school!

Academic Advising

Academic Advising for Current 8th Graders

At this time, counselors have met with all 8th grade students to go over course selections for high school. Course selection sheets should be turned in to counselors and courses have been entered online through SIS StudentVue.

To review your child’s selections, please log into SIS ParentVUE and click “Course Requests” on the left. You will not be able to make any changes, only view. To change a class, please contact your child’s high school counselor with your request. See the chart to identify your child’s high school counselor and contact information.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we prepare our students for high school!

SIS ParentVue and Weekly Progress Reports

As we are now underway in the second semester of the school year and we wanted to remind you of two ways you can stay informed of your child’s school progress.

  • The Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account will give you 24 hour access to your child's attendance, class performance, demographic data, and more The same login credentials will be used to access both the SIS and FCPS 24-7 systems. If you don’t already have an account, please sign up at this link.
  • Sign Up for Weekly Progress Reports to receive a summary of your student(s) grades in real time. All parents/guardians who have registered for a SIS ParentVUE Account and have a primary email address recorded in SIS ParentVUE can receive Weekly Progress Reports via email. Please note: This does not happen automatically. You must opt-in to activate and receive these progress report emails.

To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE Account and first verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab. If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports and click on update account. Once confirmed, parents/guardians can activate and select their preferences for receiving these reports within the SIS ParentVUE “My Account” tab. If you have more than one MS or HS student, the progress reports will be included in one email.

Questions? Your student’s teacher is always the best resource to answer any grade book questions that you may have or you can visit this Weekly Progress Report Parent Quick Reference Guide.
