Welcome back Mr. Mark Merrell

Dear Sangster Parents,

Please join me in welcoming back Mr. Mark Merrell as a temporary Assistant Principal (AP).  Ms. Elizabeth Obester, AP, will be on leave through the end of February.

Mr. Merrell agreed to support Sangster Elementary for the next few weeks because he previously served in the role of AP at Sangster in August-September 2018 when we had an administrative vacancy.  He has also worked closely with the Sangster staff for the past five years co-leading professional trainings for our staff and attending school events.

Mr. Merrell just completed serving as Interim Principal at Annandale High School for the past 6 months.  He retired from Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) a few years ago after serving as Principal at Madison High School and working with students and the community for 31 years.  During his tenure, Madison was regularly listed in the U.S. News and World Report and Newsweek in the top 125 high schools in the nation. Mr. Merrell has presented at numerous national conferences to teachers, principals and superintendents on topics such as Professional Learning Communities, school culture, and assessments.  He currently works with K-12 educators across the United States.

Please let me know if you have questions.  Ms. Jankovich, Mr. Merrell and I are available to support you throughout the month and will welcome Ms. Obester back when she returns.

Sincerely,

Lisa M. Reddel

Principal

Sangster Elementary
