Glasgow Community:

This weekend, I had the pleasure of watching the Glasgow Unified Basketball Teams compete in the Potomac Unified Basketball Tournament. Glasgow had two teams compete, coached by Keely Norris, Olivia Shank, and Megan Amelio. I love seeing our students striving to be their best both inside and outside the classroom. Everyone played hard and had a great time!

We had a lot of fun celebrating Open Campus this week with all three grade levels. It was great to see students participating in activities like playdoh, Valentine’s Day card making, origami, volleyball and basketball! Open Campus is truly a community event, and we could not do it without the support and enthusiasm of our teachers and staff!

Last week was also National School Counseling Week. We celebrated all of the amazing things that our School Counselors do each day: academic advising, meeting to connect students, families, and staff, hallway and lunch duty, managing 504 plans, facilitating parent-teacher conferences, working to promote social-emotional wellness of students, and making sure students are safe in the school learning environment. We are so lucky to have an incredible school counseling staff at Glasgow.

Finally, I hope you will join me at our next PTA meeting on Thursday evening at 7:00pm. Greg Frantz, School Counselor, and Joash Chung, Director of Student Services will be leading a course registration roundtable.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Getting Ready for High School

2020-2021 Course Registration for Rising 9th Graders - Glasgow Student Services is excited to meet with your 8th graders to register them for next year’s courses! Glasgow counselors are meeting with students one-on-one during their Health & Physical Education classes for academic advising and reviewing course selections. After meeting with their counselor, 8th graders will be bringing home the course selection sheet for your review.

New for this year, students are now able to enter their course selections on their own through SIS StudentVue prior to meeting with counselors. Parents will also be able to view their student’s course selections in ParentVUE when they are entered. You may help your student through this process by using the “How To” guide.

In order to make changes to course requests, parents of rising 9th graders will need to contact the student services team at Justice HS no later than March 1.

Spelling Bee - Volunteers Needed! - Glasgow's Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, February 12 at 2:30pm in the Library. To make this event a success we need your help! The Bee will run from 2:30 until 4:30pm but we ask that volunteers arrive before 2:15pm to avoid the end of the day parking lot craziness and so that there is time for proper instructions before the students arrive. Sign up here to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084aa4a92da0fc1-glasgow21

Civics Lobby Day on March 5 & 6 – Volunteers Needed! - On March 5 and 6, 8th grade students will be doing a presentation of learning about state and local government. They will identify problems in their school, state or local communities and create an advocacy plan in order to lobby a legislator or decision maker about the issue. To give students an authentic audience for this task we are asking community members to volunteer to visit Glasgow for one hour and interact with students. In addition to Glasgow community members, we’d also love to have elected officials volunteer, as well as anyone with a direct connection to public service. Thank you in advance for supporting our students! To sign-up, visit this link. Email Tina Takach at cptakach@fcps.edu with any questions!
