Dear Fort Hunt Families,

We hope you all enjoyed our movie night last Friday.  We know it was a wonderful turn out!  Thank you to our generous PTA for organizing a great community event.

On Wednesday, Quarter 2 progress reports were sent home.  We hope you can talk to your child about their progress and set some healthy academic, behavioral, or personal goals for Quarter 3.

Next week is “Love Yourself” week, we have a number of healthy activities planned for our students.  Please feel free to volunteer if you can, we have many opportunities for parents to come in and help with our Big Salad event!

Esperamos que hayan disfrutado nuestra noche de cine el viernes pasado. ¡Sabemos que hubo una maravillosa participación! Gracias a nuestro generoso PTA por organizar un gran evento comunitario.

El miércoles, los informes de progreso del segundo trimestre fueron enviados a casa. Esperamos que pueda hablar con su hijo sobre su progreso y establecer algunos objetivos académicos, de comportamiento o personales saludables para el tercer trimestre.

La próxima semana es la semana de "Ámate a ti mismo", tenemos una serie de actividades saludables planificadas para nuestros estudiantes. This week in the 6^th Grade music classes we started to use the ukuleles that we purchased with a grant from the PTA. The students were very excited to learn a new instrument and we are grateful for the PTA allowing us to broaden their musical horizons. We just learned how to tune the ukuleles with our electric tuners and we are getting ready to learn our first piece next week! Go Fantastic Foxes!

Esta semana, en las clases de música de sexto grado, comenzamos a usar los ukeleles que compramos con una subvención del PTA. Los estudiantes estaban muy emocionados de aprender un nuevo instrumento y estamos agradecidos con el PTA que nos permitió ampliar sus horizontes musicales. ¡Acabamos de aprender a sintonizar los ukeleles con nuestros sintonizadores eléctricos y nos estamos preparando para aprender nuestra primera pieza la próxima semana! ¡Viva los Zorros Fantásticos!

I would like to nominate Allison Verich as the Fox of the Week.

She is always kind and helpful. She always has a positive attitude. Allison is hard working and dedicated to her students. She works tirelessly everyday, translating lessons from English to Spanish. She develops challenging and thought-provoking lessons to challenge her students.

She is constantly striving to become better teacher by embracing every opportunity for professional development. Allison is organized and desires to develop lasting relationships with her students.

Me gustaría nominar a Allison Verich como el Zorro de la Semana.

Daria Klem - 2^nd Grade Language Arts & Social Studies teacher

Teaching Experience: First year at FHES, 4th year in FCPS, Total Teaching Experience – 12 years

I am from the Albany, New York area.  I moved to Arlington 5 years ago to be closer to my nephews (ages 5 and 7).  I have 2 other nephews in  New York (ages 1 and 3).  I enjoy spending time with them! 

I love getting together with family, friends, traveling (especially my yearly trip to California to see my best friend), reading and going to Zumba.

Experiencia docente: primer año en FHES, cuarto año en FCPS, experiencia docente total: 12 años

Soy del área de Albany, Nueva York. Me mudé a Arlington hace 5 años para estar más cerca de mis sobrinos (de 5 y 7 años). Tengo otros 2 sobrinos en Nueva York (edades 1 y 3).

Winter Weather

Dear FCPS Families,

The winter months are upon us and that can often bring challenging weather conditions.  We want to remind parents, students, and staff members that FCPS monitors weather conditions daily in case school must be cancelled, delayed, or closed early due to weather. Parents and students should have a well communicated family plan in place in the event of emergency weather situations.  

The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority whenever a decision is made regarding school closures and delays. FCPS reviews information from emergency management and state highway officials about road conditions, and school personnel inspect the conditions of roads, sidewalks, FCPS parking lots, and bus lanes. This information contributes to the final decision about a delay or closing.

FCPS tries to make decisions in the evening, realizing that parents need time to make proper arrangements. But when there is a great deal of uncertainty, we wait to receive the latest morning forecast. In that case, the superintendent decides whether to delay or close schools by approximately 4:30 a.m.

Los meses de invierno están sobre nosotros y eso a menudo puede traer condiciones climáticas difíciles.
