Course Registration for Rising 8th Grade and Rising 9th Grade Parents

Liberty Middle School is now doing online course selection for rising 8th and rising 9th grade students.  A sample course selection sheet was sent home with your child in January and they will be entering this information into their Student Vue account at school. Counselors will be meeting with students individually in the coming weeks, and your child will be bringing home a yellow copy of the course selection form that will require your signature.  The signed yellow copy should be returned to the school counselor.  Parents can login to the Parent Vue account to VIEW course selections at any time, but all changes need to go through the school counselor.  Attached are the directions to view courses from Parent Vue.  If you don’t have a Parent Vue account, you will need to contact Jenni Carnahan at 703-988-8200.  Questions? Contact your child’s school counselor.

8th grade Writing SOL

8th Grade Students will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Grade 8 Writing SOL between March 4, 2020 and March 13, 2020. It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time. It is also important that your child have a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing. If you become aware of an unavoidable conflict that could result in your child missing a testing day, please notify us as soon as possible.  If you have questions about the Writing SOL, please contact our School Test Coordinator, Annie Baker, at 703-988-8207.

Opportunity for Parents to Share Input with the Commission on African American History Education

Each February, we observe Black History Month, celebrating and honoring the many achievements and contributions made by African Americans to the economic, cultural, and political development of America.  The linked VDOE memo also describes an important opportunity for students, teachers, parents, and community members to contribute input to the Commission on African American History Education, “A group charged with examining and making recommendations on the professional development supports needed to equip all teachers for culturally competent instruction and reviewing Virginia’s history standards, instructional practices, content, and resources currently used to teach African American history in the Commonwealth.”

February 3 - March 3:  Book Drive - PTA Service Project

If you have gently loved books collecting dust on your bookshelves we would love to take them off your hands! Many of our Lion Time classroom libraries are in dire need of upper elementary and middle school level books. The book drive will begin February 3rd and run through March 3rd. March is National Reading Month and we'd love to see just how many books we can add to these classroom libraries which are used by every single student at Liberty!! Books can be dropped off on the cart labeled PTA Book Drive located at the entrance to the library. Thank you for your help!!

Calling all volunteers for the 8th Grade Celebration!
