Franklin Weekly Update - February 7, 2020

Franklin MS

Dear Franklin Families,

Good afternoon! I hope that you have had a great week.

During my first week at Franklin, I have been truly impressed by the talented students and the dedicated teachers and staff. As I have visited classrooms all around the building, I have observed focused, determined students working hard to achieve high levels of academic success. I have also witnessed students collaborating with each other, taking risks, seeking out challenges, learning from their mistakes, and overcoming adversity. There is much to be proud of at Franklin and I would like to thank you for everything you do to support our students.

I would like to invite all of you to one of two Parent Coffees that will take place during the first week in March. The first one will be on Tuesday, March 3 from 5:00 PM – 5:45 PM and the second one will take place on Wednesday, March 4 from 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM. During both events, I will take the opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself, to discuss my goals for my first few months at Franklin, and to hear your voice as Franklin parents and community members. I hope to see you there!

Finally, I would like to ask for your help in celebrating a special group of Franklin staff members. At our school, there have been several acknowledgements throughout the week, but please help me recognize our Student Services team during National School Counseling Week. Franklin MS is fortunate to have a fabulous group of school counselors who are dedicated and committed to supporting the students at Franklin. They help our students be successful in all aspects of their middle school experience. THANK YOU to all of our counselors!

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

It will be helpful if you can avoid appointments which may take your child out of school on or during the testing dates.   Also, it will help your child perform his or her best if he or she has had a good night’s rest, a healthy breakfast, and comes to school with a positive attitude

Author Visit to FMS: Ben Mikaelsen

benmikaelsenauthor

Welcome Franklin Falcons!  Franklin Middle School is excited to welcome writer Ben Mikaelsen, author of Touching Spirit Bear, next spring on April 1, 2020.  In preparation for this author visit, part of each student’s school supplies are to purchase a copy of Touching Spirit Bear.  When Ben is here in the spring, he will sign personal copies of the students’ books.  If you do not purchase a copy, Franklin Middle School will have copies available for students to borrow during the school year.  Franklin Middle School prides itself on building literacy for all students and we incorporate ten minutes of reading in fifth period two times per week.  Beginning the week of September 23, 2019, students will be reading Touching Spirit Bear.   Prior to beginning work on Touching Spirit Bear, students should have another book to read during fifth period.  Thanks for supporting literacy at Franklin Middle School.
