Registration Now Open for Select Summer Programs


Registration is now open for the following FCPS summer programs: CTE Summer Academy, Elementary Institute for the Arts, Institute for the Arts, Tech Adventure Camp, and CTE Summer Career Academy. Students should register for programs based on the grade they are in during the current 2019-2020 school year. Details including program dates, tuition, and registration information will be posted as they become available on the FCPS Summer Learning webpage.  


Enrichment Camps & Institutes


CTE Summer Academy: Current grades 8-11

  • Session 1: Monday, July 20 – Friday, July 24
  • Session 2: Monday, July 27 – Friday, July 31
  • 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., daily

CTE Summer Academy’s Career Cluster experiences give students the opportunity to dive into career pathways and explore options after high school. Students select their experience based on the 5 career fields. Classes change weekly.

EIFTA

Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA): Current grades 2-5

  • Session 1: Monday, July 6-Friday, July 10
  • Session 2: Monday, July 13-Friday, July 17
  • Session 3: Monday, July 20-Friday, July 24
  • Session 4: Monday, July 27-Friday, July 31
  • 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday-Friday

E-IFTA is a weekly arts and STEAM camp for students who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students attending E-IFTA rotate between dance, music, theatre, and visual art classes. Some classes may integrate technology and engineering-rich STEAM lessons. Class content changes every week, so students may attend one or more sessions.

Institute for the Arts (IFTA): Current grades 6-11

  • Session 1: Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 17
  • Session 2: Monday, July 20 – Friday, July 31
  • 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday–Friday

IFTA is a comprehensive arts enrichment and academic program. Students take 4 classes which they choose from among 90 selections. Options include dance, music, theatre, visual art, and fashion classes. Students entering grade 9 may take the Online Health & PE (HPE9) course, and students entering grades 9-12 may take the Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance course as one of their 4 classes.

Tech Adventure Camp: Current grades 2-7

Elementary: Tech Explorers (current grades 2-4)

Secondary: Tech Pioneers (current grade 5-7)

Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) gives students the opportunity to explore career pathways. TAC has two types of programs depending on the grade level of the student. Tech Explorers will rotate through all five of the CTE areas with themes changing each week. Tech Pioneers will choose their pathway for a two-week focus.

Adult and Community Education (ACE) Driver Education Program: Students age 15 ½ or older

The FCPS ACE Driver Education Program consists of 36 hours of classroom instruction, the Partners for Safe Teen Driving (PSTD) presentation, and Behind-the-Wheel driver training. The classroom instruction phase analyzes tasks an individual must perform while operating a motor vehicle. Students must complete classroom instruction and the PSTD presentation in order to receive the state District-8 completion card.  Summer 2020 PSTD will be offered Thursday evenings at locations throughout the county for a fee. Behind-the-Wheel instruction is provided at multiple locations throughout the county throughout the summer. Students registering for Behind-the-Wheel must provide to the driving teacher on the first day of class: (a) valid Virginia learner’s permit, (b) District-8 classroom course completion card or concurrent enrollment form, and (c) online confirmation receipt or walk-in registration form, signed by parent or guardian. This program includes administration of the Commonwealth of Virginia Final Road Skills Evaluation and is for high school students only.  DMV Driver’s Learners’ Permit testing is offered for FCPS students for a nominal fee. Students must show their FCPS ID for permit testing.

Secondary Academic Opportunities


ESOL Online: Language and Literacy Connections: Current grades 7-12

  • Monday, June 22-Tuesday, July 14
  • Morning session: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., daily
  • Evening session: 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., daily

ESOL Language and Literacy Connections is an online, three-week, non-credit class that provides FCPS middle and high school English Learners the opportunity to engage in thematic English language lessons in an online environment with an ESOL teacher. Students develop their academic reading and writing skills in online discussions with an ESOL teacher.

  • Honors Geometry: Monday, June 22-Thursday, July 30

These courses provide opportunities for credit recovery and acceleration for eligible middle school and high school students.

CTE Summer Career Academy: FCPS students who are currently in grades 10-11

  • Monday, July 6-Friday, July 31
  • 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., daily

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Summer Career Academy provides students access to CTE courses during the summer. These are one credit introductory courses that students may not have the opportunity to take during the school year. Successful completion of the courses allows students to take more advanced courses during the school year.

Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance: Current grades 8-12

This online course is for current FCPS students and is pass/fail only.

TJHSST Academic Summer School at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology: Current grades 8-11

  • Monday, June 22-Thursday, July 30
    No classes Friday, July 3.
  • 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily

Current TJHSST students and incoming freshmen choose from a variety of courses for academic credit.

TJHSST Middle School Technology Institute: Current grades 7-8 

  • Monday, June 22-Friday, July 24
    No classes Monday, June 29-Friday, July 3
  • 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily

Students currently in grades 7 and 8 are introduced to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through week-long sessions that allow them to explore a STEM topic of interest.

CRA

Credit Recovery Academy: Current grades 7-12

  • Monday, July 6-Friday, July 24 
  • 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., daily
  • Located at Hayfield Secondary School, Centreville High School, and Annandale High School

The Credit Recovery Academy provides an opportunity for students to recover one high school course credit. Students who have passed Algebra 1 and want to improve their understanding before taking the next high school level mathematics course may take the course. Students may not take Credit Recovery courses for new course credit. The Academy also provides SOL and WorkKeys remediation classes and tests. See the Summer Learning webpage for testing dates.

Madison Summer Academy: Current or incoming Madison, Marshall, McLean, and Oakton High School students

  • Monday, June 22-Wednesday, July 24
  • 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily

The Madison Summer Academy provides Honors Geometry, or Health & PE 10 for eligible FCPS students who are current or incoming students who are seeking new, first-time credit.
