Dear Graham Road Families and Community!
It's been an exciting start to 2020! We just wrapped up the second quarter of school and I encourage you to reflect on the changes and progress you've seen in your children since they walked through our doors in August! They are all reading more challenging books, solving more complicated problems and engaging in deeper conversations when I visit classrooms.
We have had some important guests over the last month at Graham Road! Our superintendent, Dr. Scott Brabrand visited us just before winter break. Video highlights from his visit were just sent out to the school division. I hope you will take a moment to watch them below. He was able to see just how deeply embedded strong relationships are at our school. He recently proposed his budget to the school board and we appreciate his priority of investing in our most precious resource - teachers!
We were also visited by our new School Board Member for the Providence District, Karl Frisch (pictured below with me). Principals from the Falls Church Pyramid hosted a breakfast at Graham Road Elementary to get to know our new members, share about our schools and what we need to continue moving forward. Dr. Ricardy Anderson, member for the Mason District, was also in attendance. Both Members Frisch and Anderson were eager to learn about our schools and so thoughtful in the questions they asked as they prepare to dig into the important work of supporting Fairfax County Public Schools.
I am excited and hopeful about the future in Fairfax County Public Schools and especially at Graham Road! We remain focused on preparing students for the 21st century and beyond. With a skilled group of teachers, strong leadership at the school and district levels and supportive school board - there are no limits for our future!
Sincerely,
Lauren Badini
Principal
Graham Road Elementary School has invited the Falls Church High School Pyramid Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist, Anna Teeter, to speak with our 6th grade students about the dangers of vaping. We are taking this preventative measure due to the significant increase in the number of youth involved with e-cigarettes and vape devices, along with associated health concerns. This presentation will happen on Friday, February 21 during school hours.
On Tuesday, February 18, Ms. Teeter will also deliver a similar presentation for parents at Knox Presbyterian Church at 7:00 pm. This presentation is for parents only so adults can learn how to support children in making healthy choices!
