Principal's Letter

Dear Waynewood Owls,

We know that this week was a little unsettling given the news reports from the Belle View area. Thankfully, the latest information indicates that no crime was actually committed. Student safety is always our first priority. Please take this opportunity to remind your children about ways to stay safe as they travel to and from school and around the neighborhood. Good practices for safety include walking with a partner or adult, identifying the houses of safe and trusted neighbors, remaining alert while walking (not texting, using earphones or reading) and reporting anyone that makes them feel uncomfortable to a trusted adult. Students can always return to school if they are uncertain about a situation while on their way home from school and we will be there to assist them. One of the many wonderful things about this community is the strong parent presence and the ways parents look out for each other’s children. It takes a village, and we know you always will take extra care to make sure each Waynewood Owl is safe each day.

I want to thank all the Waynewood families that joined me for a Day of Service at Hayfield Secondary School last weekend. There were way more volunteers than were anticipated, which was amazing! Thanks to all the generous donations and the volunteers, we packed over 225 boxes for service members who are currently overseas. There were so may volunteers that they are going to have to organize the event differently next year. What a great problem to have!

As a reminder, Monday and Tuesday are Teacher Work Days, and there will be no school for students. Teachers will be busy participating in professional development and preparing progress reports. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine

After School Science Share Interest Survey

A Science & Invention Share provides students with the opportunity to do hands-on science and engineering projects at home and then provides a forum (1-2 hr casual/open house after school) for the students to share their projects with their peers, parents, and teachers after school.

Please fill out the short survey below to help us better gauge the interest in having a Waynewood Elementary School Science and Invention Share.
