Have You Filled A Bucket Today? (All Grades)
This week, January 21-24, Colvin Run is participating in Bucket Filling Week. During this week, students and staff will be encouraged to become bucket fillers by highlighting positive attributes of each other, and classes will have daily reflections about what it means to be a bucket filler. Ask your children what they have done to add a drop to someone’s bucket!
Rise Against Hunger Event-"100% Participation Challenge" results (All Grades)
We are having a “100% Participation Challenge”, and we need your help reminding your children to bring in their money to support this worthy cause. This is the last week for our Rise Against Hunger ‘in school’ donations. Until Friday, we will be accepting any amount of money each morning in the school lobby. We encourage ALL students to donate to our school-wide Rise Against Hunger initiative.
“100% Participation Challenge” results so far….
- 1st Grade- 65% of students have donated
- 2nd Grade- 57% of students have donated
- 4th Grade- 45% of students have donated
- 3rd Grade- 44% of students have donated
- 6th Grade- 43% of students have donated
- 5th Grade- 38% of students have donated
- Kindergarten- 26% of students have donated
The Participation Challenge tracks how many students from each grade donate, NOT how much each grade level donates, so any amount of money is welcomed and helps make a difference in the lives of children and families around the world.
Whether it is $.34, $1.00 or $10.00, they are never too young to make a difference in the world. This is a wonderful way for our students to better understand how their role in a school community impacts their global community.

(Please remember to follow the Colvin Run dress code.)
Student Absences, Late Arrivals, Early Dismissals and Change of Transportation (All Grades)
Please complete the form on our CRES website for all Student Absences, Late Arrivals, Early Dismissals, and Transportation Changes. This is the most efficient and effective way to communicate with the school.
For Transportation changes, your online entry generates a Pink note to notify the students of the change. The Change of Transportation form should be used to remind your child of any change from their usual after school dismissal routine. Please remember to fill out the Change of Transportation form for all dismissal changes before 2:00pm. Forms are delivered after 2:00 p.m. and any changes called in after that time must be individually hand-delivered. Please help us be efficient with your communication by submitting before 2:00 p.m.

Reflex Math Update (All Grades)
Congratulations to our students!! Our school has solved 1,265,452 math facts. All children Kindergarten-Sixth grade* have a Reflex Math account in which they can practice their math facts to increase their fluency. www.reflexmath.com. You will also find the link on our Colvin Run homepage.
Helpful Tip: The game's speed adjusts based on the device you are using and how fast your child types in the numbers at the beginning of the session. To slow the pace of the game, have your child type in those numbers slower. If your child finds the game moves too fast, please have them try again when they have grown with their math facts. The game is meant to be a fun way to practice math facts, and this is just one tool parents can use to help their child grow their math fluency.
*Reflex Math is not recommended for Kindergarten-First Grade students, but we provide it as a way for students to practice at home and in school.

CRES Food Rescue Program
It's a new year, which means it's the perfect time to volunteer!
4th graders will be responsible for collecting the unopened items in the cafeteria, and we need parent volunteers -- from all grades -- to assist with delivering the rescued food every Tuesday and Thursday to Cornerstones Emergency Self-Sufficiency Services located in Reston, VA just 12 minutes from CRES. Cornerstones provides healthy food and supportive services to homeless and low income individuals and families, enabling them to work toward a goal of self-sufficiency. Sign up here to help deliver food.
High school students can also earn service hours by accompanying you on the delivery. For more information please contact Tonia Powell, the CRES Food Rescue coordinator, at tonia@bradandtonia.com or 703.201.1922.
Save the Date! CRES Family Bingo Night is February 28!
More info coming soon.
Support our Direct Donation Drive!
The PTO Direct Donation Drive is still ongoing and we need your donations to support all of the great "extras" that are only found at Colvin Run. Without your support we are in danger of having to cut programs! Currently only 59% of CRES families have donated. We would like to reach a total of 75%! Donate now before the end of the year for a final charitable donation! Go to to https://crespto.membershiptoolkit.com/
To assist in getting to our goal also check see if your company participates in charitable matching. Do you work for the following companies?
- Apple, Google, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Kaiser Permenente, L3 Harris Technologies, MARS, Paypal, Raymond James, Tegna
If yes, they will match your donation to CRES PTO! Wondering if your company participates in donation matching? Simply go to https://doublethedonation.com/crespto, type in your company name and they will do the rest!
These community events are neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent, or this School.
