Your FCPS Benefits in 2020

Please review the following information regarding your benefits:

Check your pay advice.
Benefit elections made during open enrollment are reflected in your January pay; please check to ensure your elections are correct. Many employees will see a difference in net pay as premiums have been updated for the 2020 plan year.

Deductibles and out-of-pocket limits are reset in January.
Deductibles, out-of-pocket limits, and annual maximums are based on the calendar year. These amounts have reset for the new year.

Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Hybrid Retirement Plan members will see increased retirement contributions.
VRS Hybrid participants hired prior to August 2019 will see a 0.5 percent increase in their contributions to the VRS 457b plan. The automatic increase is mandated by VRS and occurs every three years (unless the employee opted out or is at the maximum contribution of 4 percent). Visit the Office of Benefit Services webpage

IRS Form 1095 Coming Soon

Employees and retirees who were enrolled in FCPS health plan coverage (or who were eligible for coverage but did not enroll) will receive IRS Form 1095-C in early March. Much like Form W-2 and Form 1099, which include information about the income you received, Form 1095 provides information regarding your health insurance eligibility and enrollment.

While the information on this form may assist with preparing your tax return, the Internal Revenue Service has stated you will not need to submit these forms with your tax return. You should keep the forms for your records with your other important tax documents.

If you have questions regarding how these forms impact your tax return preparation, please check with your tax professional. For questions, please contact the Office of Benefit Services at 571-423-3200, Option 3.

Video of the Week

Timber Lane ES teacher does a special handshake with each student.

We're loving this video of Timber Lane ES Teacher Rebecca Wilson greeting each of her fourth graders in a very unique way. Lisa O'Donovan, Timber Lane's assistant principal, tweeted that the personalized greetings are "a positive way to set the tone and begin each day." Someone commented, "Just one of many reasons I could never be a teacher. Who can remember all that??" Lisa replied, "She [Rebecca] can because she is AMAZING!!" See for yourself

#OurFCPS Faces: Sandy Vigen

Sandy Vigen, Administrative Assistant, Office of School Support

Sandy Vigen started working for FCPS in 2006 as a part-time office assistant at Fox Mill ES. A few years later, she became the principal’s administrative assistant at Rachel Carson MS. Sandy joined the Office of School Support (OSS) in 2016 as an administrative assistant.

Sandy describes her role in OSS as “the sole support person for our department of almost 60 people, including two coordinators, educational specialists, data team, and research teachers.” Mark Greenfelder, executive director of the Office of School Support, is Sandy's supervisor. He says, “Sandy Vigen is the consummate professional and the anchor for the Office of School Support. Sandy is responsible for supporting over 60 staff members including the executive director and two coordinators. She does so with both grace and efficiency, and is largely responsible for the outstanding culture and climate within the Office of School Support. She is simply amazing!”

Sandy says the best thing about her job is the people she works with. She adds, “The staff in OSS is top notch! In fact, every office I’ve worked in in FCPS has had amazing people. I like to think that I help create a culture where our staff enjoys coming to work.”

Colleague Jen Wildasin says, “She is always so positive and goes above and beyond to support ALL of the people in my office. She checks in on all of us, sets up activities to boost morale, and always has words of encouragement."

In her free time, Sandy enjoys reading, walking, swimming, and hanging out with her family. She has been married for 25 years and has two "incredible kids." Even though they're grown, the family still enjoys vacationing together. Sandy is from Maine, which is also her family's favorite place to visit.

Sandy, thank you for creating and inspiring a kinder workplace!
