CVHS Job Fair Seeks Business Partners

Centreville High School is hosting the 3rd annual Job Fair for students on Friday, March 20 from 11:17am – 1:20pm during all lunch periods. The event will take place in the library and students in all grades will be encouraged to stop by to learn about opportunities for summer employment, internships, and full-time positions.

The Job Fair is highly popular among students and considered a successful recruiting tool for the businesses who participate. Each business will have its own table and be able to hand out materials, take applications, talk directly to students, and even make offers on the spot! Snacks and water will be provided to representatives.

If you would like to participate, please fill out this form by Friday, March 13: https://forms.gle/GpR89DA59QWG3uBh9. Thank you for your partnership!

Finally, the mulch sale is coming-the dates are March 27-29.  This will be the final year for the current Mulch Chair and Routing Manager.  These are critical roles for the success of this important fundraiser, and we would like to begin the recruiting process for 2021, so that we can take advantage of the opportunity to shadow and transition knowledge during the 2020 sale.

Please contact Sharon Stemme at sharonstemme@yahoo.com to sign up to chair an ANGP committee or shadow the mulch chair or routing manager.  You don’t need to be able to attend the meeting to volunteer!

We will need many volunteers to make both these events a success and will be sending out Sign Up Genius links for volunteers closer to both events.

Career and Transition Services Event

On Saturday, February 22, 2020, Career and Transition Services (CTS), the FCPS Parent Resource Center, and several Fairfax County adult service providers will host “Super Transition Saturday” from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School. This is a free event for parents/guardians and educators of students of all ages with IEPs. Breakout sessions will cover postsecondary education support, the importance of student self-determination beginning in the elementary years, employment support programs, future planning considerations, such as funding needed for services, and CTS support services that are available to students as they progress through the secondary years toward graduation and beyond. A highlight of the day is a parent/guardian and student panel representing a range of challenges and successes. Members of the panel will convey personal experiences and answer parent/guardian and student questions from their perspectives of having been through the transition process. The snow date is March 14, 2020.

Volunteer Hours Deadline for Seniors

Attention seniors: Wednesday, April 22, 2020 is the deadline for submitting volunteer hours in X2VOL and cleaning up any issues relating to hours claimed. Remember that you need 40 verified service hours over a 4-year period to earn a black service learning cord for graduation. Cords will be handed out at graduation practice at no cost. To receive the Virginia State Civic Service diploma seal, you need 50 hours of verified service as part of a larger award criteria that includes grades, attendance and overall behavior.

If you have submitted service hours but they have not been approved, it may be because the adult point of contact has not verified your hours. The hours MUST be verified by the adult supervisor (not a parent and not a student) before they will be approved. When volunteering, please tell your adult contact to verify your hours when they receive the email. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Armstrong in the 3rd floor subschool.
