Congratulations to Mrs. Danielle Peltz and family on the birth of their sweet new little one, Zoe Peltz, born on Monday, January 13th.
Lockdown Drill
At Little Run, our goal is to keep students and staff safe at school. We continually work with county leaders to ensure coordinated responses to potential threats. We also drill for emergency situations and then review and revise plans as needed.
Today, we conducted a lockdown drill. The purpose of a lockdown is to protect against intruders in the school building. Prior to today, teachers talked to our students to prepare them for our drill.
During a lockdown drill:
- Students stay in place with a teacher or staff member.
- Students and teachers remain in locked classrooms, unobservable from outside (lights-off, window blinds closed, door windows obscured with paper) and outside potential lines of fire.
- Students and staff members disregard fire alarms.
- No one enters or exits the school, except public safety personnel.
- Persons in trailers remain in locked trailers.
Our students did a great job today!
Meet Sandra Ammar, Our New Office Assistant
I’m so excited to be here and get to know all the students, staff, and families at Little Run ES. I have been a substitute teacher in FCPS for over eight years now and love working with all the students. In my free time, I love to spend time with my husband and two girls. We love to travel to new places and try new foods. I’m the oldest of four kids, grew up in Fairfax and attended W.T. Woodson High School and George Mason University. If I was stuck on an island, all I would need is a good book and never ending supply of sushi.
Meet Rebecca Maylone, Our New Special Education IA
I am excited to be a part of the Little Run Team. It is going to be a great year full of new friends, adventures, and new discoveries. All good things begin with an introduction, so let me tell you a little bit about myself: I have been an educator since 2007, when I became a momma, but a professional educator since 2013 when I graduated with my bachelor’s from Eastern Michigan University. Fort Belvoir has recently brought my family to Virginia, and here I am. Ta-da!
When I am not teaching, you can find me at local library, or on a trail. In my spare time, I knit blankets for Project Linus, and experiment with crafting artisan bread (garlic carrot bread is pretty amazing, if I say so myself).
Perseverance
Next week, we will learn about perseverance. The concept of perseverance can most often be found in one’s active pursuit in overcoming obstacles. Perseverance is a uniquely human characteristic that identifies an individual’s ability to spend long periods of time devoted to a single goal or set of goals. Those who persevere are able to set goals for themselves and thentake active, calculated steps toward those goals. People demonstrating high levels of perseverance are able to handle significant, sometimes repeated, setbacks in pursuit of goals.
