Dear Floris Families –
This week we said a fond farewell to our Instructional Coach Courtney White. Ms. White has been provided a wonderful growth opportunity and has been appointed the acting Assistant Principal at Gunston Elementary School. Although Ms. White only joined us this year, she made a big impact supporting the professional development learning of our staff and helped shape our Collaborative Learning Team and Leadership Meetings in a positive way. We wish you all the best, Courtney!!
Do you have a budding scientist in your family? Then mark your calendars - on Thursday, February 27th, the Floris PTA will host our annual science fair, and all students and families are invited to attend. Come out to see our young scientists’ hard work. Enjoy checking out their inventions, experiments, and the new knowledge they have learned as they researched and explored their scientific topics. Details are in the PTA notes below.
We want to remind parents that next Friday, January 24th, marks the end of our second quarter and first semester. Please note that Monday, January 27th and Tuesday, January 28th are student holidays.
This coming Monday, January 20th, is the Martin Luther King holiday. Stay warm, read a good book, and enjoy the three-day weekend!

POSITIVITY CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE WEEK (January 20 – January 24): PERSEVERANCE
What Does PERSEVERANCE Mean? You complete what you start despite obstacles. You never give up. Perseverance is a uniquely human characteristic that identifies an individual’s ability to spend long periods of time devoted to a single goal or set of goals. Those who persevere are able to set goals for themselves and then take active, calculated steps toward those goals. Why does it Matter? For individuals, persistence can be directly connected to an individual’s ability to be successful throughout their life. Those who persevere through setbacks often reap the benefits of the success gained by refusing to give up. On a group level, perseverance can be contagious. A single group member’s ability or willingness to persevere can have a substantial impact on those working with him/her and the team. Groups that show high levels of perseverance are able to achieve goals they may not have believed possible.

Science Fair – February 27, 2020
Registration for this year’s Science Fair is open! All Floris students are welcome to participate in groups of 2 or more. Each team must have a parent coach to register. Registration closes on February 20th. Only one registration per team. Visit https://florispta.org to register your team now!
Are you a Friend of Floris?
Friends of Floris is a single, straight-donation fundraiser, operated solely by the PTA. Donation starting at $80 per student or $150 for families with 2 or more. Benefits include two free memberships to the PTA and a front row seat to the exciting activities that happen all year long. Any donation of $250 and above includes those items, and I’ll add a FREE 2019-2020 yearbook. The class with the highest contributions wins a pizza party! DONATE TODAY!

PTA Membership Meeting – Wednesday, February 19 6 p.m.

Our Next Box Top Store is Thursday, January 23rd during ALL Lunchtimes!
Come shop the Box Tops Store in the cafeteria during lunch time. Floris PTA will have all types of goodies for you to “purchase” with box tops. We will have toys, stickers, pens, pencils and more! We have something for you, even if you have just one box top. Find a list of participating products on the box top website.
The store will return every Third Thursday DURING lunch periods (except December- there will no store during this month). Students must bring the box tops with them to lunch and based off the amount they possess they can make a “purchase.” NO CURRENCY IS NEEDED
Volunteers Needed – PTA Committees & Chair Positions
We are currently recruiting volunteers for our to Chair/Organizer Positions: PTA President, Bingo Night, Movie Night, Spirit Wear, and Spirit Events.
