A Note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Rocky Run Families,

It has been a Ramtastic week at Rocky Run!  We have enjoyed hosting our colleagues from our feeder HS to support 8th grade transition and also presenting to our "rising rams" to welcome our incoming 7th graders for the 20-21 school  year.  It has been fantastic to see the excitement on our students' faces and feel their enthusiasm for the next step in their educational journey.  We look forward to welcoming rising 7th grade parents on January 30, 2020 for our Curriculum Night presentations.

Reminders:

  • No Fast Food Lunches:  Please do not send/bring in fast food for lunch for students.  FCPS food service regulation prohibits competitive foods in the cafeteria.  We also cannot deliver lunches to students during the school day or be responsible for lunches that are dropped off.  Please ensure your student has lunch funds available in the cafeteria at all times.
  • Early Dismissals for Students:  If your child requires an early dismissal, please call in or send in a note for a pre-arranged pass with your student at the beginning of the day.  It is very difficult to get a student out of class at the end of the day or without prior notice.   Also, we will not call for students to be dismissed from class after 2:05 due to the timeline of dismissal.

I welcome your feedback, questions and suggestions. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time or complete this form

I hope to see you at Rocky Run very soon.

Positivity Project - PRUDENCE

You plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices.

Prudence is the ability to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. Leveraging this strength helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them.

Prudence supports effective individual self-management. Whether aspiring for an athletic record, academic grade, or purchasing a car, foresight and planning are necessary. However, long-term goals – even with a plan – can only be
obtained by overcoming those impulses and desires that steer you away from your goals. Prudence provides the wisdom to know which character strength to leverage, at which time, to achieve your desired end state.

Under Construction: Renovation News

  • Over the break new light poles were installed in the parking lot.
  • Tile flooring has recently been installed in the hallway connecting the addition to the renovated classrooms in the original building.
  • Construction of the new library, electives wing, and main office addition is progressing on schedule. The goal is to open these new spaces in April 2020.
  • We are excited to plan for the finishes and new furniture for all of our new spaces.
  • Roofing work is ongoing!  You may see cranes and roofing trucks in our Kiss and Ride area over the next few weeks as the roof is constructed over the new front entrance.  Please know that roofing does not take place during school hours over occupied student or staff areas. If you have questions about roofing you can visit our  website to review FAQs and information.

Air Quality:  During construction, questions about indoor air quality arise. The most recent air quality tests for January met or exceeded all standards.   The air quality inside the building is monitored at least once per month.  Please visit the Rocky Run website to review FAQs related to indoor air quality.

If you have specific questions about the renovation, please email them to Administrative Assistant, AJ Ries, ajries@fcps.edu or call the Rocky Run MS main office at 703-802-7700.

We will post updates, pictures, timelines, etc on this page on our website. This page will also be linked as a static announcement on our homepage as we move through the renovation process.
