Atom Pride Times

Note from the Principal

Dear Atom Community,

Welcome to 2020 and a new year and the beginning of the second semester.  We are rapidly reaching the mid-point of the school year and that means we need to begin to look forward to the next year and begin serous conversations regarding registration and course work for the 2020-21 school year.  Fairfax County Public Schools is moving towards an electronic registration process which will be very different for those of you who have been with the school system for a number of years.  We believe the process will be easier for families to negotiate, will save time, and will be much more efficient.  We will eliminate much of the back and forth between home and school as well as cut down on the amount of paper students will need to submit.  The Department of Student Services at Annandale will have directions on the school website and you will also be able to access information directly related to course descriptions on the school website as well.  We have already conducted the elective fair at Annandale on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, and we held our rising 9th grade orientation on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. Student course registration will begin the week of January 20th and continue through the month of February.

The principal selection process is under way and I can report that initial interviews for the position have been conducted.  I know the goal of FCPS is to be able to name a permanent principal at Annandale High School by the end of the first semester.  My tenure as the interim principal will officially end on January 27, 2020, but I will stay to the end of the week to assist in the transition of a new principal.  While the goal is to have a principal in place and a formal transition at the semester, the timeline  might be off by a few days or weeks.  As I prepare to leave Annandale, I want to thank the entire community for the wonderful support I have received over the past six months.  I have learned that Annandale is a truly a wonderful community with a caring staff and an amazing student population.  I want to wish you all the best of luck and  thank you for  the opportunity to be a part of this very special school.

Mark Merrell

Interim Principal, Annandale High School
