Thank you to everyone who contributed towards Student Field Trip Money!

Some students are unable to participate in Woodson field trips due to the cost. The Woodson PTSO put a call out to you, our Woodson families, to help cover these costs so that ALL students have the opportunity to visit a museum, tour the Capitol, or experience an event that enhances their learning.

You heard us, and thanks to those that helped - we were able to collect almost $300, which the school has now for those who may need the funds for the next field trip scheduled.  Thank you!

Free coats and sweaters!!

We also have accessories like gloves, hats and scarves! Some are new or gently used and we’d like to share with students in need. Come see Mrs. Tomer, Parent Liaison, room A139, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 2pm

Nominating Committee for PTSO Still Needed!

The PTSO is looking for a volunteer (or two!) to participate in the PTSO Board nominating committee to help identify candidates to fill vacancies on next year's 2020-21 PTSO Board and standing committees.

We have a volunteer to head the nominating committee, so we’re just looking for a few additional volunteers to help out.  Interested or have more questions? Please email Melissa French at wptsopres@gmail.com

Winter Sports Highlights

WTW Varsity Girls Basketball (10-2) opened its Patriot District season by winning a thriller over South County at home, 47-46, breaking a 5-game losing streak to the Stallions.  The Cavs rallied in the 4th quarter in a game marked by numerous lead changes and ties.  In a breakout clutch performance, Allie Maahs scored all 5 of her points late in the 4th quarter to twice give the Cavs the lead.  Maggie McGuire’s free throw with 0.3 seconds left broke the final tie and won the game.  Eunice Yoon kept the Cavs in it early by scoring 11 of her 14 in the first half.  Abby Pesansky dominated in the second half to score 13 overall, Maggie ended with 7, Sarah Wilson 6, and Anna Wiggins 2.  The Cavs have three games next week with road games at Lake Braddock Tuesday and juggernaut West Springfield on Friday and a makeup contest at home against Falls Church on Wednesday.

WTW Varsity Boys Basketball faced a tough South County team on Friday (1/10) losing 53-37.  Moe Raff scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.  Joe Pesansky also contributed with 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Ethan Lash played solid defense with three rebounds and three steals.  The Cavs will be home on Tuesday (1/14) against Lake Braddock and Friday (1/17) against West Springfield.

Swim and Dive has started off the season strong.  Victories over the weekend, by both the men and the women, brought our dual meet records to 3-2 and 4-1.  The women’s only loss was to defending District and Region Champions, Robinson.  The men, missing many top swimmers, lost to Robinson and then by only 11 to defending State Champs, Oakton.   Both teams went 3-0 against Fairfax, Annandale, and Lake Braddock.  4 swimmers (Kent Codding, Aiken Do, Eric Lundgren, and Joe Schaefer) have achieved 10 state cuts, with the Men’s medley and 400 free relays also meeting the standard.  4 divers, 10 swimmers, and all 6 relays have qualified for Regions.  The next meet is this Friday, January 17th.  It is Senior Night against South County, at South Run Rec Center.
