WAKEFIELD FOREST ES Weekly Message

Color Collage

Students and staff enjoyed wearing grade level assigned colors on our most recent SCA Spirit Day.

Dear WFES families,

This fall we sent out a survey to the Wakefield Forest ES school community to determine areas in which families were interested in gaining more information about the school and/or about how to support their child. The Principal Coffees scheduled this year reflect the top priorities of those who responded to the survey. We hope you are able to join us at our next Principal Coffee on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 9:00 am; the focus of this coffee will be Addressing and Preventing Bullying.

In the survey we had a few families show interest in receiving support around changing families (such as separation, divorce, blended families) and families with a child identifying as LGBTQ+ . If you are interested in one of these topics, please email the school counselors, Chelsea Boateng cmboateng@fcps.edu and Nancy Garcia-Henderson nagarciahend@fcps.edu and one of them will reach out to you to determine the best way to provide support for your family.

Sincerely,

Sharyn Prindle
Principal

Fire Alarm Test this Week
We wanted to inform you that the fire alarm system at our school will be inspected and tested at some time this week, January 13-17.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Fairfax County Office of the Fire Marshal require Fairfax County Public Schools to test fire alarm systems annually. This testing can only be performed when the building is unoccupied; therefore, the typical hours of testing are from approximately 10:00 P.M. until 5:00 A.M., Monday through Friday.

In an effort to minimize disruption to the citizens, the testing of the audible portion (horns) of the system is performed at the end of the total system test (the last testing day). The approximate amount of time that the audible portion (horns) are activated per site, per test, for elementary schools is 15 minutes.

Parfait Day at WFES on Tuesday, January 21
The FCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services has announced the launch of a rotating Salad Bar Special Event: Parfait Day. Salad Bars will transform for the day into build-your-own Parfait Bars, where students can make yogurt and fruit parfaits as their choice of entrée. Our Parfait Day is next week, Tuesday, January 21. Please watch the following video for more information about Parfait Day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv-_EtInkOY&feature=youtu.be. Students will be able to choose a parfait from the Salad Bar that day, or they can choose Baked Cheese Sticks with Marinara Sauce.

Positivity Project: Prudence
To be prudent means to be careful, cautious, and to use good judgment, as well as to have wisdom in looking ahead. Prudence is the ability to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. It's a future-oriented way of thinking that helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them. It is cognitive – more a strength of the head than of the heart.
