HORNET HAPPENINGS

January 10, 2020

Welcome January

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing winter break.  As we embark on a new year, we are looking forward to many exciting school activities planned for our Hornets in 2020!

Also, the new year is always an opportunity to pause and reflect on goals that students have set for themselves.  Take a moment as a family to discuss progress towards their goals and strategies they may want to implement to reach them.  At Halley, we will continue our work on becoming goal-directed and resilient learners into the new year. As always, thank you for your trust. Please reach out if you ever have questions or concerns.

Fondly,

Mrs. Peerman, Dr. Simpkins and Ms. Johnson

“What the new year brings to you will depend a whole lot on what you bring to the new year.”

Inclement Weather and Emergency Closing Plans

When Fairfax County Public Schools have a schedule change (closing or delay) due to inclement weather or other emergencies, the information is communicated as soon as the decision is made in these ways:

  1. Posted on fcps.edu.
  2. Posted to the FCPS Twitter and Facebook
  3. Email and text messages sent to parents and employees.
  4. Email sent to News You Choose subscribers of Delayed Openings and School Closings.
  5. Posted on FCPS cable Channel 21 (Cox Communications, Reston Comcast, and Verizon cable customers only).
  6. Area radio and television stations.
  7. REMEMBER, Halley is a Fairfax County Public School.

Parents are urged to make arrangements now for the care of their children when schedule changes are made (and to provide for the rare situation when it is necessary to close an individual school because of a power failure or other circumstances). Children should know where to go or what to do if a parent will not be at home.
