INOVA Blood Mobile Coming to Liberty

Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Liberty Middle School has partnered with INOVA to host a blood donor drive on January 27. Please sign up on the link below to give the gift of life to someone in our community.  If you have any questions, please call Natalie Lissy, Assistant Principal, at 703-988-8100. Thank you for sharing the gift of life!

Please join us on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 7pm in the LMS Library for our monthly PTA Meeting. This month, in our Liberty 101 series will be Ms. Patricia Ludes, Librarian at LMS.  She will be updating us on how the library and staff are no longer the libraries we went to in school and what a beneficial resource they are.  We will also be discussing fundraising, service project as well as upcoming candy grams.  Please join us to help make all these things happen.  The PTA is for all and all are welcomed and appreciated.

Your Health Matters

Did you have a chance to try the apps that were offered for Mindfulness last week?  We looked at Headspace and Calm apps. One way to think about mindfulness is that it can calm our minds so that we can feel relaxed, refreshed and more attentive.  It is a way of building our inner strength and to become more balanced.  Have you ever practiced mindful breathing?  For example, if you are experiencing something stressful and starting to feel overwhelmed in your body or in your mind, you can use breathing to help you to calm and to work through your experiences.

How do you know if you are stressed in your body?  You may have a stomachache or headache, pressure in your chest or head or an overwhelming feeling.  How do you know if you are stressed in your mind? You may have the same thoughts over and over, become unorganized or not able to focus or become unproductive.

What do you do?  I invite you to practice mindful breathing to help you to relax and move forward.

I would suggest that you breathe in for 3 seconds while expanding your chest and then out for 3 seconds for 5 rounds 3 times per day.  This will be good practice for when you may need to use this skill.
