Registration for School Year 2020-2021

Children residing in our boundaries who will turn 5 years old on or before September 30, 2020, as well as students in grades 1-6 transferring from Private/Home Schools or moving into our boundaries prior to the start of the new school year may visit our website and select an appointment to register. Appointments begin in early February and continue throughout the summer.

Please spread the word to neighbors to whom this may pertain. While you are guaranteed enrollment (as long as you physically reside in our boundaries and meet the age requirements) we prefer you register sooner rather than later to ensure we are adequately staffed.  If you will not have all of the required documentation prior to June 2020, please select an appointment time now (or as soon as possible) for later in the summer so we have your information and can anticipate your enrollment.

All information pertaining to registration, including eligibility and forms is outlined in the Sign-Up Genius where the appointment selection is available. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050f49aca62aa46-20202021

HES Outstanding Teacher and

Support Staff Nominees

It is with great pleasure that we announce Nicole Johnson, second grade teacher, as Hayfield Elementary School’s 2019/2020 Outstanding Teacher nominee. She instills in her students a desire to learn and achieve while understanding the individual needs of the students and encouraging their talents.

In addition, Theresa Almeida, Instructional Assistant, has been nominated as Hayfield Elementary School’s 2019/2020 Outstanding Support Staff nominee.  Ms. Almeida wears many hats and we can all say that she helps our days run that much smoother.

The nomination packets for Ms. Johnson and Ms. Almeida will be sent our Hayfield pyramid committee where a pyramid team will select Outstanding Teacher and Outstanding Support Staff and winners will be passed on to the Region level. The Region winners will be the finalists for the overall Fairfax County Public Schools Outstanding Teacher Award and Outstanding Support Staff Award. A winner from each Elementary and Secondary school levels will be selected from the Region winners and will be announced at the annual FCPS Honors awards gala later this year. Please take a moment to congratulate Mrs. Johnson and Ms. Almeida when you see them.

Rising 7th Grade Parents

Registration Information: In February, sixth graders will be registering for their middle school courses online. This will be done at Hayfield Elementary, with the support of Ms. Smith and the middle school counselors. Parents will be able to view and make changes to course selections using ParentVue. If you have not done so already, please register for ParentVue and familiarize yourself with the system.

What To Do If You Are Moving

Address changes within Hayfield Elementary boundaries will require a Student Registration update form, as well as a new (signed) copy of your deed/lease. If you are moving out of our boundaries, please fill out the Student Withdrawal Form and submit it to us as soon as you know you are moving. This serves as your official withdrawal notification document and will ensure that student records are prepared and are ready to be sent to the new school. We ask that you include the name of the new school as well as your new address to forward any items left after your move.

Advanced Academic Program Level IV Announcement

Full-Time Advanced Academic Programs, Grades 3-8 (Level IV)

Level IV services are available for students found eligible through a central selection process.  The program is available in Grades 3-8.  Eligible students use curriculum from the AAP Curriculum Framework for Levels II-IV in the four academic subject areas on a full-time basis.

Due to the volume of files screened centrally for Level IV services, deadlines are strictly held. The referral deadline is today, January 9, 2020.

The AAP Level IV Referral Form, and Parent/Guardian Questionnaire is available on the FCPS website at https://www.fcps.edu/node/38893.

Additional information about the holistic screening process and information used for screening can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/advanced-academics-identification-and-placement/current-fcps-students.

Please email Maggie Gawen, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, magawen@fcps.edu, with any questions.

SCA Jersey Spirit Day

Friday, January 31, is the SCA Jersey Spirit Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear your favorite jersey.

SCA Canned Food Drive

Beginning January 31 through February 28, the SCA will be sponsoring our annual canned food drive. This year’s drive will kick-off on Friday, January 31. Vote for your favorite team in the Super Bowl by bringing in a non-perishable item and placing it in your favorite team’s box in the front lobby. Use only one item of food to vote and take the rest to your classroom.

The SCA is encouraging all the students at Hayfield Elementary to bring in all kinds of non-perishable items. No breakable items please. Items of need: sugar, oil, cereal, flour, ketchup, mayonnaise, salad dressing, jelly, coffee, peanut butter, diapers (sizes 4-6), laundry supplies, dish washing detergent, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene supplies, and toilet paper. Parents talk with your students about the importance of helping others less fortunate than ourselves.

The SCA appreciates your donations and support with our canned food drive. The less fortunate families of our area will definitely benefit from your generosity.

Many Thanks for the Angel Tree Donations

The SCA would like to thank the Hayfield Elementary community for your generosity during this holiday season. Our Angel Tree was decorated by so many children, parents, and friends from our community with an abundance of hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, and toys. This holiday season, we collected many boxes full of hats, scarves, and gloves which were delivered to Koinonia. We also collected several boxes of toys which were delivered to Toys for Tots prior to the holidays.

Thank you for all your kindness. Many children are warmer and had a merrier holiday season because of you!
