FCPSOn Reminder: Students are expected to bring a fully charged laptop and charger to school every day!  If you lost your charger or would like to purchase a second charger, please go to www.myschoolbucks.com to purchase one.  Once it is purchased, the new charger will be delivered to your child’s 5th or 6th period class.

 

Late Buses: This is a reminder that late buses arrive every Wednesday at 4:30pm at the main entrance, Door 1.

Curriculum Night

Attention Rising 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th Grade Parents and Students:

Please mark your calendars for these important events related to Academic Advising/Course Registration:

Curriculum Night on Wednesday, January 15, 2020

**Please use the Main Entrance -Door 1 to enter the building**

(Snow date: Thursday, January 16th)

  • Parent/Student General Session for Rising 9th – 12th Grade

Auditorium, 6:00-6:45 PM Please attend the General Information Session to learn more about graduation requirements and opportunities for all students.  Our interim DSS, Shannon Matheny, will be presenting.

  • Advanced Academics Information – Honors/AP, Dual Enrollment, and Academy Information Session, Auditorium, 6:45– 7:15 PM Please attend if your rising 10th-12th grader is planning on taking an Honors or AP course next school year for the first time or if you are interested in finding out more information.  Our AP Coordinator, Ben Fiacco will be presenting. Information regarding Dual Enrollment course opportunities will be shared and how students can earn college credit while in high school, as well as information on FCPS Academies After the Information Session, staff will be available for questions in the cafeteria until 8:00 PM.

 

  • Curriculum Fair for Parents and Students Cafeteria, 6:30 – 8:00 PM You’ll have the opportunity to meet with administrators, counselors, department chairs and teachers to learn important information about curriculum options and course planning for your students. 

 

Below you will find a calendar of Academic Advising dates during school hours:

 

January 16th     

Curriculum Fair

All rising 10th- 12th graders will visit classrooms where teachers will share information with students about specific courses and requirements.

January 30th and 31st 

Academic Days of Emphasis

These days are set aside for teachers to have conversations with all students regarding course recommendations and any changes to academic levels (i.e. Honors, AP, DE).  

January 31st   

Pre-Advising Lesson

Counselors will provide a lesson plan for advisory teachers to assist students in making informed course selections for the next school year. This presentation will occur during LS4 Advisory. 

February 3rd – 11th  

Academic Advising for Rising Juniors

This will occur through Health & PE 10 Classes. 

February 13th – 24th    

Academic Advising for Rising Seniors

This will occur through Social Studies.

February 27th – March 10th     

Academic Advising for Rising Sophomores

This will occur through Health & PE 9 Classes.

*Students who are not enrolled in HPE9, HPE10 or a US VA History Course (Standard, HN, AP or DE) in-person at WSHS will be called down individually for their advising session.
