Key MS Families-

Happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed their break and we know the students are ready to get the new year off to a positive start! We are in full swing with the Key MS "Away for the Day" procedure for electronic devices.

The Patriot Helping Games will be wrapping up soon and we will are also looking forward to our pep rally on January 31st. Students are aware that they must be in "good standing" with behavior and attendance to participate in the pep rally. So please continue to encourage our students to stay focused so they can participate in the fun and exciting activities coming up at Key MS.

Did you know that there is a School Psychologist assigned to EVERY school in FCPS? FCPS School Psychologists are working hard to make a positive impact on the academic and social-emotional development of all FCPS students through the provision of mental health services that build resiliency, life competencies and good citizenship.  Please follow them on Twitter @FCPSpsychs to find out more about how they impact students’ lives every day!

Book Your Summer

Encourage Nightly Reading

  • Encourage your teen to pick up a book from their favorite author and read it. Or, have a family book club and discuss different books from that same author.
  • Compare characters and story elements..
  • Discuss the author's tone.
  • Make predictions about what will happen next in the story or how it will end.
  • As a family, play charades by acting out certain scenes of the book.

Have fun with it and reinforce that reading can be enjoyed by every age.

Tree Project - Do you have a green thumb and a love of trees?  Are you interested in starting a club for students here at Key with a focus on planting donated trees and preserving those trees?  We have a parent interested in working with you!  Students would plant the trees, apply mulch, and watering bags to help establish the trees.  Students will learn about watersheds, and other conservation topics.  Please contact Ms. Williams if you are interested at bawilliams1@fcps.edu

SIS ParentVUE - If you have registered for SIS ParentVUE and have a primary email address recorded in ParentVUE, you can receive your student’s Weekly Progress Report via email. This report provides a summary of your student’s grades for the current quarter. To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE account and verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab. If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports, and click on “Update account.” Once your email is confirmed, return to the “My Account” tab to activate and select your preferences for receiving these reports. Emails will be sent according to your selected preferences. Weekly Progress Reports for all of your middle and high school students will be included in one email. For additional help, refer to the quick reference guide for FCPS parents/guardians.
