On Tuesday, January 7 at 9:30am in Room 130, the PTO will host Kimberly Greer (Langley High School Principal) and Braden Peterson (Langley High School Director of Student Services). They will discuss the process for registration and course selection for our rising 9th graders.
Rise Against Hunger Event - Save the Date
Event Date: Saturday, February 8, 2020
Last year’s Rise Against Hunger event was a huge success and provided a service learning opportunity for children and adults of all ages. In partnership with Rise Against Hunger, the Langley pyramid (Langley High School, Cooper Middle School, Churchill Road Elementary, Colvin Run Elementary, Forestville Elementary, Great Falls Elementary, and Spring Hill Elementary) will come together on Saturday, February 8th at Colvin Run Elementary with a goal to prepare 100,000 meal packages for schools and orphanages around the world. Click here to learn more about Rise Against Hunger. Last year, the Langley pyramid raised enough funding to provide 100,000 meals for families in developing countries around the world, and additional funding to support disaster relief in the United States. Last year’s meals went to families in Burkina Faso.
We package meals based on the amount of money raised and our Langley pyramid goal is $34,000 which provides 100,000 meals. With each meal feeding 5-6 people, this is a wonderful event that impacts 500,000 individuals around the world and broadens the perspective of our students and families. This is a wonderful way for our students to better understand how their role in a school community impacts their global community.
“Learn to Earn” initiative begins Thursday, January 9th
Next week, your child will bring home a collection box in which they can start to save money to be donated in January as part of our “Learn to Earn” fundraising efforts. “Learn to Earn” is the initiative we promote to encourage students to earn money they would like to donate by: taking on additional chores, setting aside part of their allowance, helping shovel snow, or any innovative way they can think. This initiative also provides them the opportunity to make a choice to keep that extra money or to donate part of it towards a greater good. Our students are limited by their own imagination. They will have the opportunity to donate January 9th-24th.
Event Volunteers
Parents will receive an email which includes a link to Register as a Volunteer for the event. The event will have volunteers from all of the Langley pyramid schools and each school is given a specific number of slots per session. The timeslots are: 8:30-10:30, 11:00-1:00, and 1:30-3:30.

AMC 8 Test Results
Students and Parents - We know you are all anxiously awaiting your AMC 8 results - as are we! The test was administered on November 12th, and the score reports were delivered to the Mathematics Association of America (MAA) offices the following day. The website states that score reports are generated throughout December and emailed to schools in the order they are scored.
Cooper’s contest manager spoke with a representative from the MAA on Thursday, and the score results are in que to be emailed. The results should be emailed within the next few days. Since we will be on winter break, the scores will be shared with students when we return in January.
We appreciate your understanding and patience with the process!
AAP Level IV Referrals
Deadline January 9, 2020
This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is January 9, 2020. Referrals should be submitted to your child’s school counselor (Ms. Saint Germain or Ms. Wiley). Parents are welcome to submit early, but no late referrals will be accepted. We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. Click here for forms and documents related to the AAP screening process. If you have any questions about this process, please contact your child’s school counselor.
