Academic Advising: 2020-21 SY

Academic Advising Season has begun. Starting January 2020, students will meet individually with their school counselor to choose their courses for the 2020-21 school year. It is so important that parents and students are informed of their academic options. Families are encouraged to talk with current teachers for their recommendations for next school year. This year, students will choose classes via their SIS Student accounts. After the students choose their courses via their accounts they will meet with their counselor to confirm the selections. Parents can always view the course selections via their SIS Parent account. If you do not have an active account, please contact Student Services to obtain a login.

There are numerous ways to stay informed about course selections and graduation requirements which include:

  • Watching the daily Westfield Live episodes via YouTube to learn more about course options. On Monday, December 2, 2019, Westfield Live began featuring departments at Westfield. Each episode features a specific department and information about courses available.
  • Curriculum Night will be January 9, 2020 at Westfield High School. This is a chance for parents and students to come talk to teachers about courses available, homework expectations, reading materials required.
  • Electives Fair will take place during the school day for students on January 10, 2020. Students will be required to visit three elective course presentations to learn more about the elective course options, homework requirements and materials needed for the course.
  • Stone Middle Electives Fair will take place on January 14, 2020. Westfield staff will present options to rising 9th graders.
  • Open Houses at Fairfax Academy & Chantilly Academy, please see the flyers below.
  • Students are encouraged to attend AP Informational sessions that will be held during the school day in the month of December and early January.

The goal of all of these activities is to ensure that our students are making the best decisions when it comes to course selections. It is not easy to go through a schedule change, so it is extremely important for students to choose wisely and be informed about their decisions. After mid-March 2020, requests to change any course selection will be made via the school counselor based on space availability. After June 12, 2020, Westfield Student Services cannot honor any requests to change elective courses, so it vital that students choose wisely. Please speak with your student’s school counselor if you have any questions.
