Academic Question and Answer Session for Rising 8th and 9th Grade Parents McLean High School Boundary Adjustment Update Join us for the first PTA meeting of 2020 for an important mid-year update. Immediately following the short meeting, Director of Student Services, Marissa Brooks will present and answer questions regarding next year for both rising 8th graders and rising 9th graders. Mrs. Brooks has extensive middle and high school experience. This is your opportunity to get all your questions answered in a smaller setting and help your student achieve success at the next level. Principal Kihm will be there to answer questions too. She has extensive high school experience and was a high school principal before returning to the middle school level at Longfellow. We will also have an update from McSPaCES founder, Vance Gore regarding recent community meetings on potential boundary change between McLean and Langley High School. He will also have updates from the January 7th school board meeting and a timeline for the next steps. Keep up to date on this important matter.

Longfellow Middle Career Day Frequently Asked Questions
When is Career Day? Tuesday, April 21, 2020
7:30-8:20 Check-in, setup, and light refreshments in the LMS library 8:24-9:09 Session 1 9:13-9:58 Session 2
What is the format? Participants present 2 times for 30-35 minutes in a classroom setting with a staff member. After the first presentation, a new group of students will arrive, and presenters repeat the presentation a second time. *Presenters stay in the same room for both presentations*
Who is the audience? All Longfellow students, grades 7-8, will participate. They range in age from 12-14. Students will sign up by interest to attend presentations. Most presenters will have groups of 20-30 students. If your session is high interest, you may be placed in a larger room to accommodate more students.
How will the students interact with me? Students will listen to presentations and think about questions to ask you at the end. Plan to present for about 30-35 minutes for each session. You should talk about what you do, what led you to your current career, what a typical day is like, your skills, and your education/training. Feel free to show demonstrations or make your presentation interactive. Please leave about 10 minutes at the end for students to ask questions.
What should I bring? Middle school students are very visual. Visuals and displays will make your presentation interesting for the students. A display could include work samples, photos, tools, digital presentations, uniforms, tri-fold posters, etc. A screen and projector will be provided for you, should you want to show a digital presentation. Wireless internet is provided. If you plan to show a digital presentation, please bring the presentation on a flash drive.
What if I need help? A staff member who is used to working with middle school students will be in the room with you. We also have technology experts available to support.
How do I sign up to present? Please click here to complete the LMS Career Day Interest Form. Participants will receive email confirmation within one week of submitting the registration form. Another email with final details (including a map and parking information) will go out by Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
