Dear Rocky Run Families,
We had a fantastic week at Rocky Run. It has been a week of performances and celebrations:
- Concerts, play and concerts! We are so proud of our Fine Arts department and the fantastic band, chorus, orchestra and theater performances we saw this week.
- Thank you to our awesome Librarians, Mrs. Bickford and Ms. Grover as well as our wonderful volunteers for an outstanding Book Fair. Thank you for supporting our teacher wish lists and supporting our library.
- November Students of the Month were recognized during lunches. Students are recognized by their team of teachers for their focus on personal growth and positive impact. List and pictures below.
Welcoming Walk Through Results
To further our focus on family engagement, we requested an assessment from central office where we gathered input from community members and staff of the communication strategies and school procedures we use day to day. I am pleased to share that our feedback was overwhelmingly positive and included great suggestions for additional things we can do to support family engagement. I look forward to sharing this information with the community as we implement changes.

Positivity Project - HUMILTY/MODESTY
This week our school focused on the character trait of humility and modesty. What does humility mean?
You do not seek the spotlight. You let your actions speak for themselves.
Humility and modesty are often characterized as synonymous with shy or meek. This is false. True humility is a sign of strength; it is a quiet confidence in who you are. It requires an honest self-reflection on your strengths and weaknesses, and self-control over ego, arrogance, and vanity. It encapsulates a person’s feelings, thoughts, and actions. It includes resistance to false modesty or the “humble brag.”

Under Construction: Renovation News
- Roofing work is ongoing! You may see cranes and roofing trucks in our Kiss and Ride area over the next few weeks as the roof is constructed over the new front entrance. Please know that roofing does not take place during school hours over occupied student or staff areas. If you have questions about roofing you can visit our website to review FAQs and information.
- Great progress is being made on the new main entrance and administrative offices. Windows are in and the roof is on!
- Construction of the new library, electives wing, and main office addition are well underway. The goal is to open these new spaces in April 2020.
- We are excited to plan for the finishes and new furniture for all of our new spaces.
Air Quality: During construction, questions about indoor air quality arise. The most recent air quality tests for December met or exceeded all standards. The air quality inside the building is monitored at least once per month. Please visit the Rocky Run website to review FAQs related to indoor air quality.
If you have specific questions about the renovation, please email them to Administrative Assistant, AJ Ries, ajries@fcps.edu or call the Rocky Run MS main office at 703-802-7700.
We will post updates, pictures, timelines, etc on this page on our website. This page will also be linked as a static announcement on our homepage as we move through the renovation process.
