LANIER CURRICULUM NIGHT - CURRENT 6TH AND 7TH GRADERS - RISING 7TH AND 8TH GRADE

Wednesday, January 22 6 to 8PM (Snow date: January 23)

Come and see the building and learn about the classes that Lanier has to offer. Schedule of events will be shared after Winter Break. More Course Selection information can be found on the Lanier website. Click on  Announcements, Academics, or Students Services to see the course catalog.

SIS PARENT ACCOUNT SIGN UP

In Middle School, SIS Parent accounts are used frequently. As the parent of a rising 7th grader, you are encouraged to set up a SIS Parent account. In January and February, 6th grade students will begin the course selection process for the 7th grade, and one step is to use SIS Student Vue in school to sign up for 7th grade classes. Parents who have a SIS Parent account can see their student’s Course Request in SIS Parent Vue.  Follow the link for information about how to sign up for or reactivate SIS Parent Vue.

THE GIFT OF ATTENDANCE

This holiday season, the best gift you can give your child is a good education. And the best place to get an education is in school. It’s tempting to extend your vacation by a few days, but remember, those days count as absences. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time. So make sure your child is in school every day, right up until vacation starts. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning.

SOL TESTING INFORMATION

SOL Schedule

The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests are required of all students in Grades 3-8 across the state by the Virginia Department of Education. SOL tests measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills specified in the Virginia SOLs. In order to assist your spring planning, the SOL schedule is listed below. Please avoid appointments that will take your child out of school during testing.

ELECTRONICS DEVICE POLICY DURING SOL TESTING

VDOE and Fairfax County Public Schools have an electronic device policy which is to be followed during all SOL testing. To maintain test security, the possession of these devices (e.g., cell phones/mobile communication devices, Apple Watch, FitBit) in the testing room is prohibited. If a student is discovered with a prohibited electronic device while in a test environment, the student’s test will be stopped, the electronic device will be confiscated, and the student will be removed from the test environment. School administrators, consistent with the Acceptable Use Policy and Student Rights and Responsibilities, have authority to search the “item of personal belonging” (e.g., the cell phone or mobile device) if it is believed to contain evidence of a violation of school regulations (in this case, cheating). School administrators have the right to apply school-based consequences based upon their investigation of the situation. Please talk to your student about the electronic device policy and the serious consequences of violating it.

ADVANCED ACADEMIC PROGRAMS: LEVEL IV - FULL-TIME ADVANCED ACADEMIC PLACEMENT

Students found eligible for placement in full-time Advanced Academic Programs Level IV through a central selection process receive a challenging instructional program in the four core subject areas. The referral deadline for level IV services is January 9, 2020 for the 2020-2021 academic school year. Additional information regarding the level IV screening process can be found on the Advanced Academic Programs website. Please direct any questions regarding the level IV referral process to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART), Nicole Sharpes nmsharpes@fcps.edu.
