Happy Holidays from the WTW PTSO!

Happy Holidays from the PTSO

We wish all our Woodson Families a very happy and safe holiday break!

The WeMail will resume on January 7th and our next PTSO meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 14th at 7 p.m. in the Woodson Library.

Holiday Hospitality Room

Huge Holiday Thank you!!

Thank you to Mik Kiss, Meri Farling, Carol Harrity-Tun, and Monica Cameron for creating a wonderful holiday hospitality room for the teachers and staff last Thursday.

The tables were filled with delicious treats from many generous Woodson families.  The holiday hospitality room is a WTW tradition and we are grateful to everyone who made time in their schedules to give WTW staff a place of peace for just a few moments.

Administrative Change at WTW

Last Friday, we said goodbye to our Director of Student Services, Mrs. Beth Lash.  She served Woodson families for over six years and now it is time for her to join her family in Pittsburgh.

We welcome retired, veteran DSS, Mr. Bob Gambarelli on Friday, December 27, 2019. He will be with us as we look for a new Director.

What characteristics would you like to see in the next DSS?  Please provide input here.  Thank you!

Kiss and Ride

Parents!  We need your help.

The Kiss and Ride line in the front of the school and at Door 9 are the ONLY safe places to drop off students in the morning and to pick them up in the afternoon.

Lately, students are reportedly being dropped off on Pickett Rd and at various places in the parking lots.  This is not safe and we cannot allow this.   Please pull up to the appropriate drop off locations prior to allowing your son/daughter out of the car.  Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Music Showcase Concert

Come see the Woodson band, choral and orchestra programs in concert TONIGHT, Tuesday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium.

Enjoy the sounds of holiday classics including Sleigh Ride, Hallelujah Chorus, A Christmas Festival and many more winter favorites.  Admission is FREE!

Help Us Thank Woodson Teachers and Staff

The PTSO invites all Woodson families to celebrate and recognize our wonderful teachers and staff this holiday season.

High School isn’t the same as elementary school where we had organized gift-giving and room parents. Please take time throughout the school year, and especially now in the holiday season, to recognize and thank the educators and support professionals that work with our children. Simple notes of appreciation, emails of gratitude and letters in support of teachers, counselors, principal, and/or support staff have enormous, meaningful impact.

Additionally, Woodson PTSO is collecting gift cards to raffle at the Annual Holiday Party for the Teachers and Staff on Wednesday, December 18th.  Parents, families and students are invited to donate gift cards; please send donated gift cards to the front office in an envelope addressed to “Attn: Celeste Jones, Holiday Party Raffle Prizes.”

We kindly ask that we receive all donations by Wednesday, December 18th.  Please contact Celeste Jones at cbjones@fcps.edu for more information.

Thank you for supporting WTW families in need

Thanks to your generosity, 11 food bags will go out for delivery tomorrow morning to WTW families in need this Holiday Season.  Included in the bags are snacks, breakfast items, pasta, soup, green beans, apple sauce/ peaches and an apple. There are also grocery gift cards for these families.

Thank you!

Mock SAT/ACT in January

The next Mock SAT/Mock ACT is Saturday, January 11th

It’s a great chance to support the PTSO, and it’s a great time to practice so students will be ready spring of junior year to take the real SAT for the first time.  Already participated in a Mock Test?  Not to worry—students will be given a NEW test each time!

Current juniors should not miss this great event, as you will begin actual SAT and ACT testing in the spring!  (Freshmen and Sophomores are also welcome.)

Click Here to register or to get more details.

Teacher Supply Bags

Thank you to all the generous parents that contributed to our teacher supply bags! A great way to end 2019!

Volunteers Needed for Science Fair

The Woodson Science Department is looking for volunteers to judge our school Science Fair. The fair will take place on Thursday, January 30th from approximately 9 a.m.- noon.

Anyone with expertise or background in Science and Engineering is welcome to come judge! Please email Allison Adams at agadams@fcps.edu if you are interested.

Free coats and sweaters!!

We also have accessories like gloves, hats and scarves! Some are new or gently used and we’d like to share with students in need. Come see Mrs. Tomer, Parent Liaison, room A139, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 2pm

Nominating Committee for PTSO Needed!

The PTSO is looking for a volunteer (or two!) to participate in the PTSO Board nominating committee to help identify candidates to fill vacancies on next year's 2020-21 PTSO Board and standing committees.

We have a volunteer to head the nominating committee, so we’re just looking for a few additional volunteers to help out.   We would love to have this committee filled by the end of December if possible. Interested or have more questions? Please email Melissa French at wptsopres@gmail.com

Calling All Military Families and Students!!

Thanks so much to all who collected items for Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) to support the American Red Cross “Holiday for Heroes” Program and homeless Veterans in DC!  We now have a basement full of items that need sorting!

Join the Woodson Military Family Network at 8404 Kenan Ct, the home of Lisa, Charlie, Mikaely, and Cavan Griffin, this Wednesday, December 18th at 7 p.m. to help sort!  Christmas cookies and hot chocolate will be provided!  Parents, students, faculty are all welcome!  This is a great opportunity for our kids to get together in a stress-free environment and make that connection that helps the broader military and veteran community!

RSVP to Lisa at lisagriffin1970@gmail.com or 703-407-5090.  We’ll be making a sign that the Red Cross will use to promote Woodson’s PURPLE STAR/Military connected spirit when they distribute donations!!! Bring any extra donations you’ve gathered but didn’t have a chance to turn in.  No contribution is too small (grab that coat from the hall closet and come on over!)
