Wolf News December 18

Treats

Mrs. DeVore and Mr. Credle wish the staff, students, and parents a "Happy Winter Break."

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

It was so wonderful to see many of you during the last couple of weeks for the Band, Chorus, and Strings Concerts as well as volunteering in classrooms with special events!  We appreciate all that you do to support our staff and student body.  I would like to invite your child to slide in to the New Year and beat those wintertime blues with some Oak Hill Spirit!  We had some much fun with this last year that we are doing it again!  We have fun and easy spirit days planned for the month of January to keep students and staff feeling positive, healthy and a part of a greater school community.  You can see the days listed below in the calendar portion of our news.  We look forward to the fun and thank you for your support!

From the entire Oak Hill Staff, we wish all of you a safe and joyous Winter Break with family and friends.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill.  My door is always open!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

Benefits of Graphic Novels

Graphic novels are popular among children. Did you know graphic novels have been proven to heighten children’s motivation to read and can be less overwhelming to decode?  When reading these types of texts, students practice synthesizing information.  This genre provides children with opportunities to make inferences between dialogue frames, while at the same time, exposes them to more sophisticated vocabulary.  To learn more about the benefits of graphic novels, Click Here.

Deadline for AAP Level IV Referrals

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is January 9, 2020.  Parents are welcome to submit early, but no late referrals will be accepted.  We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. While the Grade 2 screening pool casts a starting point for screening some students, test scores are only one factor in the eligibility decision.

If you would like more information about Level IV AAP services or the screening process for Level IV, there are two parent presentations available on the AAP public website  that have the same information that was shared at our local school information meetings. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs)

Referrals can be submitted to the Oak Hill ES Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Jane Wheeler, at any time up through January 9. If you have questions, please contact Jane Wheeler, AART, at jgwheeler@fcps.edu

Lost and Found

We have an abundance of jackets in our Lost and Found.  Please encourage your child to check if they are missing an item.  All items that are not claimed by Friday will be donated.  As a reminder, we do look for names in jackets before we donate.  We encourage you to label your child's clothing.
