AAP Level IV TImelines

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is due to Ravensworth ES no later than January 9, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.  Parents are welcome to submit early, but no late referrals will be accepted.  We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. While the Grade 2 screening pool casts a starting point for screening some students, test scores are only one factor in the eligibility decision.

If you would like more information about Level IV AAP services or the screening process for Level IV, there are two parent presentations available on the AAP public website  that have the same information that was shared at our local school information meetings. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

Referrals can be submitted to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Andrea Trumbull, at any time up through January 9.  On Wednesday, January 8, 2020, Mrs. Trumbull will hold a drop-in referral open house where you can bring in your referral files with any supporting documentation and she can look over them with you to determine if everything is complete and formatted correctly before submitting everything the following day. Note: She cannot advise you on the content of what to include, just whether or not it is complete and meets all formatting requirements.

Spring Author Visit

On March 27th, author Kristen Ball will be visiting our 4th – 6th graders to share about her fictional book, A Calf Named Brian Higgins.  The book is inspired by Kristen’s real experiences from 2005 when, after receiving a scholastic grant, she became the first Westerner to live in Sauri, Kenya!  Kristen has over 15 years of teaching and school administrative experience.  She spent 9 years teaching middle school where she pioneered a School-to-School program connecting her class with students in rural East Africa.  She loves traveling adventures.  Some of her favorites include hiking in the Himalayas in Nepal and canoeing along the Mekong River in Cambodia.

If you would like to purchase a copy of A Calf Named Brian Higgins for your child to read and get signed by Kristen when she visits in March, you may do so using one of the following links.

Positivity Project

This week our students are learning about the trait Humility.  Humble people have an accurate sense of their abilities and achievements.  They hold the capacity to acknowledge their mistakes and limitations and are open to advice and new ideas.  True humility is a sign of strength; it is a quiet confidence in who you are.  During the week of December 16th our students will focus on Self-control.  You can extend your child’s learning by going to the Ravensworth website at https://ravensworthes.fcps.edu/about/positivity-project

After-School Pickup Changes

Any time there is a change in child pickup we must follow procedures to ensure the safety of your child.  You need to complete a Change of Transportation using the online form:   https://ravensworthes.fcps.edu/about/transportation-form or send in a note. All change requests must be made by 2:00pm. If your child is going home with another student, we will need a matching note from that parent.

If your child is picked up after school by someone other than their regular caregiver (childcare provider, grandparent, etc.) please be sure that whoever picks up has an ID and is on the Emergency Care List.  We are not able to release a child to anyone who is not on the Emergency Care List. You must contact the office before dismissal with an email to confirm who will be picking up the child in the event of any change in pickup.
