Help Us Thank Woodson Teachers and Staff

The PTSO invites all Woodson families to celebrate and recognize our wonderful teachers and staff this holiday season.

High School isn’t the same as elementary school where we had organized gift-giving and room parents. Please take time throughout the school year, and especially now in the holiday season, to recognize and thank the educators and support professionals that work with our children. Simple notes of appreciation, emails of gratitude and letters in support of teachers, counselors, principal, and/or support staff have enormous, meaningful impact.

Additionally, Woodson PTSO is collecting gift cards to raffle at the Annual Holiday Party for the Teachers and Staff on Wednesday, December 18th.  Parents, families and students are invited to donate gift cards; please send donated gift cards to the front office in an envelope addressed to “Attn: Celeste Jones, Holiday Party Raffle Prizes.”

We kindly ask that we receive all donations by Wednesday, December 18th.  Please contact Celeste Jones at cbjones@fcps.edu for more information.

Winter Sports Highlights

WTW Varsity Boys Basketball team had a busy week to start off the season, including hosting this past weekend the annual Red Jenkins Tournament on their home court.  Although the team went 1-3 for the week, they were in each game until the end - including a one point loss in the season opener to Osbourn Park and a one point loss to Edison this past Saturday.  Solid play by Joe Pesansky and Moe Raff throughout the week where Joe averaged 15.5 points a game with 7 rebounds and Moe with similar numbers at 14.5 points a game and 8 rebounds.  The boys will look to turn it around this week with three more games, including home games on Tuesday 12/10 and Thursday 12/12.

WTW Varsity Girls Basketball (3-0) opened the new season with two dominant wins.  On Monday, the Cavs won at TJ, 63-33.  Sophomore Eunice Yoon led the Cavs with 15 points.  Senior captain Abby Pesansky added 12, senior captains Sarah Wilson and Maggie McGuire 9 each, and junior Anna Wiggins 8.  Senior captain Amelia Noca and junior Zoe Hite each hit a 3, and sophomore Allie Williams scored 4. Later in the week the Cavs beat Yorktown 71-44 in the first game of the annual Red Jenkins Tournament at WTW.  Eunice Yoon led the way with 24.  Abby Pesansky scored 13, Maggie McGuire and freshman Levi Weinberger 9 each, Anna Wiggins 6, junior Katherine Friedman 4, and Sarah Wilson and junior Allie Maahs 3 each.

In the second game the Cavs faced a much tougher Briar Woods squad.  After trailing through 3 quarters, the Cavs mounted a furious 4th quarter rally behind the hot hand of Eunice Yoon getting a come from behind win over Briar Woods 55-49.  Eunice finished with 16, all in the 4th quarter, to lead the Cavs.  Abby Pesansky added 12, Maggie McGuire 10, Sarah Wilson 8, and Anna Wiggins 5 including a big late free throw.  Allie Maahs and Levi Weinberger rounded out the scoring with 2 each.  The Cavs go on the road this week for three games in four nights.
