Deadline for AAP Level IV Referrals

The deadline for referring students in grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is due no later than January 9, 2020.  Parents are welcome to submit early, but no late referrals will be accepted. We advise parents not to wait for pending ability scores if they would like their student screened.

If you would like additional information about Level IV AAP services or the screening process for Level IV, there are two parent presentations available on the AAP public website that have the same information that was shared at our local school information meetings.

Deer Park Special Olympics

Deer Park Special Olympics encourages building strong, cohesive, and inclusive communities by acting as a convening power to drive positive attitudinal and behavioral change toward people with disabilities and strengthening the fabric of society. This year, we are aiming for more involvement with the planning of our first Special Olympics Field Day to be held at Deer Park. This event will be held on June 1, 2020.  We currently have over 45 mentors who are matched to over 25 athletes!  In order to make this field event a success, we need support.

Our event requires equipment, t-shirts, volunteers for setup, coordination and cleanup.  Would you consider supporting us?  Please consider supporting us as we want our students with disabilities to know that like you, they can achieve anything, do anything, be anything!

Please contact Serena Mui at smui@fcps.edu or (703)  802 – 5000.

Thanks ahead for your support!

Artist Spotlight

In the month of December, there is beauty all around us!  Poinsettias are a beautiful plant that we see everywhere right now but for most of us, we never really stop to look at or admire the beauty.  In art we have a tradition the last few weeks before winter break. We stop and observe the beauty of the poinsettias to create art from life.  This is no easy task… drawing from observation can be difficult and frustrating.  Yet the smile on this artist’s face says it all!  Makai Dixon persevered through the  challenges to create this amazing poinsettia still life drawing!  In the end, Makai’s drawing proved a little focus, a lot of hard work, and some persistence gives us a sense of pride for a job well done!!  Keep up the GREAT work Makai!

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our Deer Park Creative Artists Facebook page for more adventures and creative artwork!

Improvements at Deer Park !

Have you noticed the brickwork and the wonderful landscaping around the front of the building?  It looks so great and we want to thank Eagle Scout Mosiah Santiago for all his hardwork.

A Big Thank you to our Boy Scout Troop 1995 and Mr. Aaron Smallwood for their service project of laying stepping stones in our Kiss and Ride area.  This is an awesome improvement for our students.

We are looking for a community member with construction contacts to do the same work on the other side of the grassy area.  If you are able to help, please contact the office @ 703-802-5000.  Thank you!
