Principal Message 12.4.19

Principal, Karim Daugherty

Dear Beech Tree Families,

Happy December! I hope you had a wonderful time with family and friends during the Thanksgiving Break! We had a large, blended group for Thanksgiving this year and it was both energizing and fun!

Yesterday, our chorus went on a field trip with three stops: 1) Thomas Jefferson Library, 2) Gatehouse Administration Center, and 3) Willow Oaks Administration Center. They conducted “Community Caroling” and shared so much cheer that FCPS staff are still talking about how wonderful our students were! Staff said they were not only wonderfully talented, they were also very polite, especially as they selected and received cookies from our Region 2 Assistant Superintendent. The librarian at Thomas Jefferson Library actually asked our students to sing as they paraded around the library! Don’t librarians usually say, “Shhhh?” Speaking of the library performance, young toddlers and their caregivers filled the auxiliary room and the little ones joined our chorus, dancing and “high-fiving!” Thank you for allowing your child to participate in chorus and on the field trip! Videos and pictures can be found on our Twitter of the Community Caroling.

Tomorrow, Thursday, December 5th, we invite you, family, and friends to our Fall Curriculum Night. We will be in the Gym, Library and Blue Hallway. Play Math and Virginia Studies games! Check out our Maker Space! Create patterns with Ms. Bacha and Ms. Koziol! Identify Colonial Architecture in Art! Learn about motion with 1st grade! This is an active learning evening! All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

As a reminder, our SCA’s Winter Food Drive will continue through Thursday, December 19th.  Please consider donating non-perishable foods and canned goods. Collected items will go to local food pantry in our area! Also, should you choose to sponsor any family for the holidays, we ask that you bring all gifts wrapped and labeled with the family number # to the main office by close of business on Monday, December 16th. The link to below will give you the information you need. Please use the link to sponsor the family or families so we each know who is left to sponsor. Thank you for your kindness! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0F4AAFAC23A75-beech

Please consider signing up for our PTA’s annual 5K Race, which is scheduled for Saturday, December 14th at 9:00am. A large group who has supported our 5K over the years, has pulled out this year and our PTA could really use everyone’s support. Please sign up using the link below. https://beechtreeelementary5k.itsyourrace.com/event.aspx?id=8319

As always, thank you for your trust. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

See you tomorrow night!
