Family Enrichment Engineering Opportunities
This month’s enrichment activities focuses on Engineering and all of them are hands on activities! They will test your child’s creative and critical thinking skills as they try to successfully meet each challenge. We encourage you, as parents, to get involved in the challenges with them. Who wouldn’t want to design a Gyroscopic Whirligig or design a model of a Maglev train.
What happens when I finish one of my engineering marvels? You can share them on our Oakton ES Twitter page (@Oakton_ES) or email them to Mr. Gray at awgray1@fcps.edu and he will upload them on behalf of your family. There are some additional details that are needed such as your name, challenge number (D#) and of course a hashtag (#Oaktonengineering). There also might be an opportunity to display some of the challenges in our library.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your materials, clear off the table and start building!
 
Deadline for AAP Level IV Referrals
This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is due no later than 4:30PM on January 9, 2020. Parents are welcome to submit early, but no late referrals will be accepted. We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. While the Grade 2 screening pool casts a starting point for screening some students, test scores are only one factor in the eligibility decision.

Referrals can be submitted to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Tony Gray, at any time up to 4:30PM on January 9.
