Viking Voice 12/4/19

December 4, 2019

Dear VRES Families,

We are so grateful to our Human Relations Committee who sponsored the food drive recently to help families in need.  One thousand five hundred and forty-one food items were collected for families!  Wow!!  We sincerely appreciate the donations as we are fortunate to have such a warm and caring school community.

I want to extend a special thank you to our PTA for hosting the Boosterthon Fundraiser and the parents who came out to cheer our students on as they participated in the Fun Run.  What a great time!  In addition, thank you to the parents and PTA for treating our amazing staff to breakfast treats and for your notes of gratitude before Thanksgiving!

The holidays are soon approaching and cold weather has arrived.  Now that winter is here,  I want to thank you in advance for ensuring students are dressed appropriately and bundled in heavier coats and boots, when necessary.  In addition, please stay tuned to inclement weather updates on the local news channels, Channel 21, or on the FCPS website.  If you haven’t already done so, it is a good idea to update your child’s emergency care card and have an alternate plan in place if the weather causes school to open later or dismiss early.

During the winter break, the school office will be closed.  I look forward to spending quality time with my family, baking cookies with my daughter, and not having a schedule!

I hope you all enjoy the holidays as well as time with family and friends. I look forward to seeing our Vikings in 2020.

Best wishes,

Ms. Bumbrey

Deadline for AAP Level IV Referrals

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is due no later than January 9, 2020.  No late referrals will be accepted.  We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. While the Grade 2 screening pool casts a starting point for screening some students, test scores are only one factor in the eligibility decision.

If you would like more information about Level IV AAP services or the screening process for Level IV, there are two parent presentations available on the AAP public website  that have the same information that was shared at our local school information meetings. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

Referrals can be submitted to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Mrs. Sesso, on January 9, 2020 by 4:00pm. All referrals and optional materials must be submitted in hard copy/paper form. No electronic submissions will be accepted. Please contact Mrs. Sesso with any questions at vmsesso@fcps.edu.
